Nestor not fit for exploration makes no sense

The Nestor has a 50% role bonus to scan strength and a +10 bonus to virus strength. This shows that CCP does intend the Nestor to explore. But these are far too inferior to all other exploration ships. If players want firepower with exploration, they go for the stratios or a T3C. The Nestor also costs 1/3 of OMEGA right now, or about 5 times that of a T3C. With that in mind, let’s continue.
Summary

The Nestor currently has a 50% bonus to Core and Combat Scanner Probe strength and a +10 bonus to Relic and Data Analyzer virus strength . The Astero’s role bonus includes a 37.5% increase to probe strength and +10 virus strength, with no scan deviation role bonus. Unlike the Astero and Stratios—Sisters of EVE frigate and cruiser hulls, respectively—which lack any role bonus to scan deviation and can fit Covert Ops cloaks, the Nestor cannot fit a covert cloak and has no deviation reduction bonus too. These limitations make the Nestor a poor exploration vessel, failing to deliver on its intended role as a top‑tier exploration battleship.

Proposed Changes
• Add a Role Bonus of –20% Core and Combat Scanner Probe deviation, giving the Nestor a unique advantage over other Sisters of EVE ships for improved site efficiency.
• Increase the virus strength bonus to +20, doubling the current +10 to better reflect the Nestor’s sub‑cap exploration role and compensate for its lack of cloak.
• Remove all scanning penalties while the ship is cloaked, ensuring the 50% probe strength bonus and new deviation bonus function at full capacity in stealth‑supported exploration.

Background & Issues
The Nestor’s power grid and slot configuration continue to hinder its laser and remote‑repair fits, causing excessive capacitor strain. Its inability to fit a Covert Ops Cloaking Device renders its 50% probe strength bonus near‑useless in wormhole exploration. And its current +10 virus strength bonus is identical to small covert frigates, despite the Nestor’s significantly larger signature and slower align times .

Community Context
Community consensus has highlighted that the Astero and Stratios remain superior for exploration due to cloak access and faster align speeds. Conversely, the Nestor is seldom flown as an explorer, as evidenced by high‑loss statistics—195,255 destroyed and 23,463 lost, per zKillboard—reflecting its niche status and steep learning curve.

Recommended Rebalances
Elevating the Nestor’s viability requires targeted exploration buffs including the new scan deviation reduction and no‑cloak penalties, alongside a doubled virus strength bonus. These enhancements would differentiate the Nestor from other Sisters vessels and justify its larger size and handling trade‑offs.

Request to CCP
We request CCP integrate these changes in the next balance patch to restore the Nestor’s thematic identity as the Sisters of EVE exploration battleship.

And give it a Covert Ops cloak…

That might be a bit overkill, but I don’t mind at all. It just sounds a bit wierd to covert cloak a literal battleship. But yet it makes sense. It’s an SOE ship after all.

every ship has its strengths or weaknesses.. thats the whole point is to choose what is best for either your wallet or what you wanna do, or what you prefer..

Have you ever tried to use T3C w/o subsystems? Anyway, 1b for “explo”(you know, the one flying in dangerous space) hull, which cannot fit nullifier, which have larger signature radius than other explo alternatives, with slowest velocity seems a bit too much. Like there is no content where you would need such nestor, better save that 1b+ isk for omega and train covops or astero.

There is a slightly related issue where training Gallente Battleship to level 5 takes a long time, but you dont really get any benefits compared to training Gallente Cruiser level 5.

For example with Gallente cruiser 5 you get max dps on a stratios, you are relatively close to flying Ishtar, Lachesis, and Proteus etc. So Gallente Cruiser 5 has a ton of value compared to Gallente Battleship 5.

By buffing the nestor this helps that a little.

Gallente battleship 5 also gets you more dps on a Nestor, (and all other Gal battleships and pirates needing Gal battleship). You are also closer to flying Gallente Capitals, all of which are useful.

I agree that the Nestor could use some love, but I disagree that Gallente Battleship 5 is not as useful as Cruiser 5.

One rather large advantage of the Nestor you failed to mention: its mass.
Nestor is very light for a Battleship. Very useful for wormholers.
They’re an excellent armour logistics platform.
Personally, I’d like to see it go the other way. Get rid of the exploration bonuses altogether and improve its drone damage and remote repair abilities.

But then it wouldn’t be an all around noob friendly ship?

requiring two battleship skills and coming with a pretty hefty pricetag, i’d argue it’s not a noob friendly ship.

Mom’s CC gets past the price tag these days.

This. No one with a sane mind goes on exploration with a multibillion ISK battleship hull. You are way too clumsy and slow and will proably die to the first competent hunter gang that spots you anway.

All in all the Nestor is actually insanely good right now. Anyone in doubt might want to read this:

CovOps Cloak Nestor = BLOPS gangs with incredible logi support.
I mean, as a keen BLOPS’er myself, I would abuse the everloving crap out of this.
Which is reason enough in itself to not do this.

I don’t understand what you mean by this?

When I started, there was no way to pay into the game to get ahead. The only way to RMT was verboten. No plex back then. Now you can buy the skills, just not the experience to go with it…

Kind of like the parents that rent their teen a Corvette for prom night and they wrap it around a tree at 150 miles per hour. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside…

No, you condescendingly mentioned “mom’s Credit Card.” What did you mean by that?

I was trying to be nice. Do you want me to mean about it?

Please, try…
