Ive been thinking about this idea. We could have 2 different mods so the distance to the ships could reduce quicker or slower. I think we should call them ‘Afterburner’ or ‘Microwarp drive’…
I prefer to not use the term combat… implies it’s a fight. It’s more like a butcher shop or a slaughterhouse. Because when I pve, it’s min/maxed to be as worth the time as it can be (it’s still not worth the time but meh).
Oh noes, what will you ever do?! I mean, apart from not trying to rat in a brawling fit. Because that’s stupid.
Well now see there’s your problem. Get off your space-ass and fit a prop mod. You can go to them nice and fast then. Plus then you get all kinds of nice things associated with moving, like preventing space-diabetes and also increased damage mitigation in most cases.
Come to think about it, aren’t afterburners and MWDs not already magnets? They do move your ship into a direction. In a figure of speech could one say these pull you towards another ship if you point yours into their direction.
MWDs then warp space-time. I don’t know how they do it, but I’d say the effect is stronger than just magnetism and who knows if MWDs push your ship through space or if these pull you through space.
So for such a module to fit into the current mechanics would it need to have about the same properties as any other propulsion module. It’s effect would then have to be as strong as an AB or MWD when pointed at a single target. In case of an AoE module would it have to be much weaker. The effect would have to scale down with the number of ships in its area of effect to remain equivalent in power to the other propulsion modules.
I’d say it’s doable, but only in a way that’s not going to change much of how we already play the game. A reasonable implementation might have less influence on the current game-play than MJDs had when these were introduced.
And I’m completely uncertain how missile damage would be affected by this. A ship’s propulsion mod has no influence on it’s missile damage, but a target’s speed certainly has. My guess is a ship magnet would have to affect missile damage, too, and thus not find much use on a missile ship.
I still have not found a good, practical use for the Target Spectrum Breaker by the way. It seems to be one of the newer modules, which just didn’t quite reach any significant popularity and I wonder how popular a ship magnet actually might be.
No. Go away FFS!
