New skills

A rig that cuts the distance autopilot drops you at in half but also reduces resistances to 0%.

I can see it work.

I don’t see a reason for such a harsh penalty, really. Other then just punishing a thing you don’t like. But then why agreeing to add it in the first place?

Such an ā€œAutopiloting Precision Rigā€ would probably be an Astronautic Rig or an Electronic Superiority Rig and should simply have the same drawbacks as all the othe rigs of this class have.

Auto-pilot will not be mandatory to have at level 5 under any circumstances

By claiming an auto-pilot skill would be mandatory to train you are only acknowledging how much you desire it. But also conflating a skill that is nice to have with being mandatory.

Polarized autopilot rig?

What about a polarizing autopilot…

:eyes:

That’s wrong. Let me explain how.

Let’s say you want to introduce a skill for a new general weapon that deals two times more damage than all other weapons. And I say that’s a bad idea, because it would make skilling that skill mandatory for anyone who wishes to compete.

You then could say ā€œby saying how that skill is mandatory shows how much you desire such a skillā€.

Do I desire such a skill? No, I think it’s bad for the game.
Would I train such a skill if the game added it anyway. Yes, because I would be at a disadvantage to others were I not using it.

Likewise I think making autopilot viable for regular flight is a bad idea for the game, but also think it would be a near mandatory skill to train for players were such a skill added.

I do not desire that skill, I think it’s bad for the game.

I hope you now see the error of your comment.

Taking bets? -_-

Sorry, I was joking and made a monkey paw suggestion.

No, I still don’t think it’s a good addition to the game.

If you think a skill will be mandatory to train you are basically saying its useful. But in this case there is no circumstance where auto pilot skill becomes mandatory. Its just nice to have.

If auto pilot is effectively on par with manual piloting, but requires less input from the player, it’s superior to manual piloting. You can do the exact same thing with less effort.

That would make it a mandatory skill. As it’s also a very general skill that applies to flying any sort of ship it would be added to the ā€˜magic 14’ to make it the ā€˜magic 15’.

Again, I do not think that increasing the amount of general base skills new players should train is a good idea.

Your suggestion is not a good idea.

A skill isnt mandatory just because you may find it useful to train

I have no problem with an auto-piloting skill, beyond that I don’t think it should remove the warp-to range below 5000m (so -1000m per skill level). It also doesn’t need to be cheap in terms of the skill training multiplier.

This satisfies both sides - except for the ā€œno more sh*tā€ crowd who absolutely abhor the suggestion of anything new being added (the same group that brought you no end of complaints when they introduced SKINR skills).

More often than not I find myself training skills I’ll probably never have any reasonably use for (bombs, carriers, etc.) because there’s nothing being offered to advance my style of gameplay. An auto-piloting skill would, because it’s something I’d probably use when auto-piloting my characters to the Paragon Fulfilment Center to redeem Evermarks. I carry nothing of value, my Hecates have more than 20k EHP - so I’m not taking away anyone’s ā€œcontentā€. Pretty sure if someone wanted to blap me for sh*ts and giggles they’d have done that long ago.

gankers might be angry, and ccp always want them to gank more…

ā€œGank harderā€ then, as they say.

Ships on auto pilot that warps to 0 does not seem better or worse for gankers

AP is just a lazy way to play. Die if you must.

I use it to set my course, then manually fly it. Warp to safe points in bottleneck systems and come at the gate from an odd angle. It’s not perfect but works most times. We all lose ships. Meh…

Redeeming Evermarks is a pitiful chore that is only made easier with the advent of auto-piloting… If I could knock an additional minute or two off the round trip…

How often do you redeem evermarks for that to be relevant?

I think I’ve gone to HS once to buy some logos.

I’d spend more, if it wasnt for the stupid ā€œyou have to go to a Paragon Stationā€ thingy. There simply are none in WH Space ^^. I can remote-inject skills or skins, jeeez CCP let us get Logos for Evermarks remotely, it’s just a cosmetic…
