Newb looking at mission running with so many questions!

Ah, but that’s not an option I would even consider. I clear pockets much faster than the time it takes for the MTU to collect all the wrecks…

For me the only choice is whether I drop an MTU or not. Comming back in a dedicated ship to loot/salvage after having completed the mission (after having completed several, actually), is the only reasonable option for me, not a choice.

If fitted with cargo expanders, it is, for me at least, but then I always salvage if I want to loot.

Indeed, I forgot this.

What about doing the pockets again after finishing the last ? IIRC the missions with tags are in several pockets, thus the time you finish last the first should be ready.

Anyhow I don’t do empire missions (destroys my standing) so basically I don’t either loot nor salvage, only use a small tractor to get the interesting wrecks( zor, anire, and in extravaganza the structures)

Long time ago I timed my missions, noted the value of bounty, of loot/salvage, the time to complete mission and loot it, and basically it was not worth it.
Maybe it has changed, but I don’t think you net a correct value collecting salvage. I had values like 2-3M/ mission of salvage.

Nope. For missions with a reasonably large number of wrecks and good loot, you have time to do at least another mission before the MTU is done collecting all the wrecks.

And then there is the issue of the accel gates that make coming back after having completed the mission (and removed the accel gates) so much more convenient, MTU or not.

Yeah, no offence, but I was already under the impression that you were theory crafting about something you didn’t really do yourself.

For the type of missions you do, that’s correct. There are other reasons you may want to loot/salvage them anyway, such as you may like to do that, it lets you somewhat take a break, or it may be a more convenient way to grab the completion item for some missions (this requires to have the completion item already in station from a previously intentionally uncompleted mission).

But in general, for strictly income reasons you’re better off doing more of those missions instead of looting/salvaging them, indeed. (There may be exceptions, e.g. Gone Berserk, not sure.)

How that ? I did one some months ago and the loot was crap, I also did a blockade, same. I salvaged both and I got below 5M loot+salvage, I think I got HIC bubbles that made a good bunch of value.

I think I’ve got well over 5M of loot+salvage in some non-empire missions other than the two that drop Elite Drone AIs, but as I said I’m not sure, will have to check that next time I do them.

OK, here are the results I got after doing Worlds Collide (Serpentis/Guristas, did the 3 Serpentis pockets only) and The Assault (Serpentis). The numbers shown are the increase in estimated value of cargo displayed in game after looting and salvaging each pocket.

Worlds Collide 1: 4.5 M
Worlds Collide 2: 10.3 M
Worlds Collide 3: 7 M

The Assault 1: 14 M
The Assault 2: 10.5 M
The Assault 3: 12 M

The funny thing is that I used to think myself that those missions weren’t worth much looting/salvaging because the loot, for Worlds Collide in particular, is crap. Turns out it’s the salvage that makes them worth doing it.

The total estimated value of the salvage from those missions plus a Smash the Supplier I had also done previously was 48.1 million. Let’s say the salvage from that other mission was worth 12.1 M (single pocket with lots of BSs, but I don’t really know, didn’t check). That would mean the average value of the salvage from the two pirate missions was 6 M per pocket.

If you thought looting/salvaging those missions wasn’t worth the effort because you never got more than 5 M per pocket, you may want to reconsider it, maybe the value of salvage has increased since you made your assessment…

indeed, I never got that much “estimated value” from salvage in the missions. I looked my notes and here are a few drops (full clear), including both loot and salvage
Those are over a year old, but the praisals I just did them.

I’ve done a fair amount of L4 mission running and they aren’t that complicated tbh.
To do them I’ve used the following hulls

  • Hawk, Harpy, Armageddon, Ishkur, Raven, Dominix, Gila, Rattlesnake, Ishtar & Tengu

L4’s were more entertaining in the frigate & cruiser class hulls
The Tengu is not the best choice for missions, but it will do them just fine

You’ll notice my ship choices are mostly missile &/or drone focussed, but that’s the play style I enjoy the most
You’ll work out how you enjoy the game over time, and that should influence what you fly
A BS isn’t a necessity for L4’s, they are just easier and generally completed quicker with one.

Excessive bling is for idiot’s and is totally unnecessary as the gains in dps or tank imho just aren’t worth the cost in isk or the attention they bring from gankers
its a rare ganker that targets a basic T2 fitting

Fun/Hr is more important than ISK/Hr
It’s a game, not a job

That is not true. That is your opinion and I have no issue with that, but some people have fun getting the best isk/hour.

Again, that is your opinion. Playing eve is totally unnecessary.
Blinging ships allow more comfort, some fit also need a minimum level of bling(eg rattlesnake with low skills had too low CPU to allow 3T2 BCU +3 T2 DDA), and the increase in DPS can make the difference between 2-shooting cruisers and one-shooting them.
So the “excess” depends on the way people play. You may consider someone an idiot while he has good reasons to use a specific fit.

fyi
imho = in my opinion

which I included the major paragraph

and your wrong, fun/hr isn’t opinion
it’s fact

eve is a game
ppl play games to have fun
therefore fun/hr is more important
otherwise you’d be playing something else

Definitely not. you need to grind for many things in the game, but grinding is nowhere fun.

How much ISK I’m making is directly tied to how much fun I’m having.

FYI
IMHO = in my honest opinion

it’s actually “in my hopinion” but the H is silent

If you don’t have a decent ISK/hr you’re not going to have a great FUN/hr ratio, either.

I thought it was Humble Opinion ?

Sandbox game that people play for their own reasons. Some PvE in frigates in anomalies, mine in ventures or whatever and having fun. Some prefer min-maxing and best ISK/h and that is their fun. Silly idea I know that people have different preferences and such.

Just for precision: it stands for “in my humble opinion”, emphasis added to missing part.

While that is also technically correct it is more like “humble” though.

Your two arrogant, it can’t be in your humble opinion. I say.

Maybe you meant three arrogant… or maybe seven arrogant?

Also *you’re :stuck_out_tongue:

Btw not sure why you reply to me anyway.
