An MWD should work in most cases , since you will be easily able to outpace the rats. However, this will mean that you are going to want to pay close attention to a couple of things.
First, make sure that you have enough cap to sustain the burn as you get to range.
Second, you’ll want to pay close attention to your tank. The issue you are going to have is that if you get an instant-agro from a group when you land, you will be taking damage while you burn away. That is going to be somewhat compounded by the massive signature bloom that the MWD will cause so their hits will be more effective. And lastly, if you get webbed, you will have a potential problem.
Those shouldn’t be big issues for L3s, but they definitely can be for L4s, so I’m making these suggestions not only to keep your investment safe for now but to help you prepare for adapting your strategy and fit for the next level.
And, as @Corraidhin_Farsaidh says, absolutely start training up your drone skills. With large hybrids and sniping, your tracking will take a big hit so you will have more ships getting under your guns. You will absolutely want to have a flight or two of drones to help out with that.
Personally, I’d suggest the 350s as they are going to be in the middle with DPS and tracking. Also, they will probably be easier for you to fit than the 450s (even with the Naga bonuses). One thing to remember here is that you will quickly start to see the difference between applied and theoretical DSP with big guns like these. Something like the 450s will look better on paper, but if you aren’t applying that DSP due to lousy tracking, you wind up with the worst of all worlds.
This is going to be especially true in L3s where you are still generally dealing with smaller ships (albeit, slightly nastier ones and more of them).
Alright, thanks to what some people said here, I finished the SOE Epic Arc today with my good ol’ Cormorant !
Managed to fix my standings with the Federation, thanks for the recommendations guys
Now, I only have to finish my training for my Ferox, and I’m off for L3s !
So now you’ll want drone skills for anti-frigate. Get your drones up to V in flight and if you don’t want to take the time training up to tech II drones in each race I suggest using navy issue drones.
They aren’t as expensive as augmenteds, but have twice the ehp and better tracking compared to tech II’s. This is useful to non-drone bunnies as it gives you a bit of leeway on noticing a drone being hit so you can recall it.
Thanks
I still have three days left to train the T2 Shield tank, but once it’s done I think it’s nine days of training to get a fifth drone. Then I still need to get my medium hybrid turret, Caldari Cruiser and Battlecruiser skills up, along some training in Light Drone Operation and Drone Interfacing
Alright guys, I have another question for you. I’m still trying to build myself a fit for my Ferox, and I still don’t know which hybrid turret should I pick. If I remember well :
Dual 150mm Railgun is a fast-firing, anti frigates turret, not really interesting for me since Drones are here to back me up in case a frigate or destroyer come too close for my guns.
200mm Railgun, somewhat in the middle between the three medium hybrid turrets. Good RoF, average damage and easier to fit.
250mm Railgun, the biggest gun, slow cycle but best damage per shot, and quite heavy on the fit.
So, I would like to get the opinion of people using Hybrid Turrets often, and what they think about those guns for L3s (maybe even anomalies or signatures running) ? I know a Minmatar friend that told me 220mm are often better compared to 425mm. Also, will Dual 150mm burn through their ammunitions ?

I am very aware that it’s probably beyond your fitting skills at the moment, but it’s an example I can talk through. The 250mm Railguns are for punch. I initially fitted Meta hybrids as I trained the skill for the T2 guns. They give the range and punch to deal with things without having to trundle over there and can efficiently deal with the many cruisers you are going to meet.
They are supported in the lows by two Mag.Stabs and a Tracking Module - the tracking module to increase the range and application of the damage (compensating for the big guns problems). It’s worth more than the third mag.stab would be as far as I am concerned.
The mid-slots. The more I look at this the less I like it, but it works. The Large Extender gives me better buffer and a faster passive recharge - it means I don’t have to keep the booster running all the time. The hardeners are obvious. The tracking computer helps application or range depending on the script and the booster is there when I need a quick top up of the shield.
Which means the two capacitor rigs are there to support the recovery after running the booster (ha!) and the current router is there to deal with the PG shortage.
It’s horrible really, the product of an Amarrian pilot used to flying armour fits trying to apply that logic to a shield ship. It works, handles Level 3 missions and is something to consider.
So, to answer the questions: 250mm if you can, but if you go with 200mm then you can probably go easier on the tracking modules and it’ll all fit better. I’d give them very serious consideration . Dual 150mm uses medium ammunition at the same rate as everything else - one bang = one round.
Alright, did some modifications on your fit, since I can’t use T2 medium turrets.

Dont worry, I’m still extremely far away from battleship skills, and I still want to do L3s before ^^
Concerning my basics skills, they are currently training… But yeah, to get CPU and PG Management to V, I need nine days each… So I prefer to train shorter skills. The fittings problem should be somewhat solved once I finish the train for Weapon Upgrades to IV (need it for the T2 damage mode). I don’t think I have access to Advanced Weapon Upgrades as a filthy alpha ^^
Also, that Power Diagnostic System is really good for me ! Added some shield hitpoints, solved my PG problem and even made my fit cap stable !
My first thoughts on that fit, and largely speculative since I don’t have PYFA in front of me, is can you use 200mm guns and swap the PDU for another magnetic stabiliser? It’ll help tracking and probably increase the damage output.
I keep forgetting that the PDU is a low slot module that helps capacitor performance.
If you’ve time before tackling level 3 and level 4 missions, then it might be worth building standing with another Caldari corporation to give a few more options for the higher level missions.
Better Battlecruiser skills really help the Ferox. 5% damage and 10% range per level. Reach further, hit harder.
The advice I was given for a Level 4 missions was the concept of the 1000 ship. Active repair plus DPS should be about a thousand combined. Ideally with in the region of 6-700dps. My mission Maelstrom is nowhere near that and struggles.
Eh, Im pretty far away from 1000 DPS ships
I thought only a Leshak could achieve this, since Supradidal Disintregator deal extreme damage for their size, or a Dreadnought.
Repair plus damage. Not DPS alone.
A battleship can do a thousand DPS but normally at close range and with a fairly high skill level. For missions a fit that does 650 DPS with 250 EHP repair is adequate.
You can do Level 4 missions with less than a 1k ship - I normally do, but you have to accept you may need to step out to recharge the capacitor and shields.
Technically you can get a bit beyond that by also paying attention to your rigging skills. Knocking yet another couple percent of power grid or cpu requirements off of weapon systems you are rigging in improvements for.
Being able to avoid requiring an engineering rig to offset your usage of a weapon rig is not to be underestimated in terms of fitting power.
Alright, thanks to everyone, I managed to get my career in missioning started and everything went so smoothly that I am now ready to make the jump to an Omega clone. I am really grateful to everyone that helped me on this topic and on my other one on the Marauders-class battleships !
