Not new but a returning player from long ago

Hey guys - last time I was in this game was 2011 and much has changed since then.

My problem that I currently cant see a way around is that I was kind of hoping I could get back into this game without having to dig too deeply into my real world pockets (cost of living is a ■■■■■). I have a couple of tech 2 BP originals that I was going to use to hopefully fund the game (or at least some of it), but I kind of find myself in a catch 22.

As far as I can tell I cant do anything in game without first upgrading to omega. I cant even fly most of my ships as they are either tech 2 or the wrong side of a skills blockage (Mining frigates were not even a thing in my day) I am well over the alpha limit for skill points (like 135mill points past that limit) so by my understanding at the very least I need some alpha injectors to fill in my low skill black holes to get access to ships further up the tree.

However I see alpha injectors as a waste of cash if I ultimately need omega anyway. Is this a correct assessment?
Am I going to have to bite the bullet and get some omega time to get myself up and running or is there a sneaky way to get round this I haven’t noticed?

Any other helpful tips for a retuning old man would be greatly appreciated.

I’m a noob, so this is going to be a bit like the blind leading the blind.

You have T2 BPOs. I knows these exist and are worth isk. Lots of isk. How much, I have no idea. However, by using these to fund your game, did you mean sell them, or “merely” use to manufacture?

You also have “ships” (type and quantity unknown) plus lots of SP. Do you also have isk? If not, selling those ships and other stuff (including BPO) could add up nicely to a target amount.

And your target would be to raise about 18 Billion isk. What follows is a bit rubbery, but you will get the point. Rather than use RL dollars you can buy omega using ISK. You first use ISK to buy PLEX, then exchange PLEX for omega time.

The “math” is something like … 500 PLEX per month of omega, but that discounts to about 300 per month (more or less?) if you buy 12 months of omega in advance. At the moment, 1 PLEX costs about 4.8 Mil ISK. So, for 3600 PLEX (or whatever it is for 12 months sub) you would need 18+ Bil ISK.

Do you have, or can you raise that much without using real dollars??

The alpha injectors only work on alpha leveled skills. And 10 injectors are less than the price of one large skill injector, but over 10 days youd still get 500k sp compared to i think 300k with a LSI.

you can attempt to PLEX your account, meaning make enough isk every month to buy 500 PLEX to then trade for 1 month of Omega.

Great info thanks for that. I am short of the numbers so dont really know what I need to achieve to make this viable.

My thoughts are to maybe off load a few of my current ships, but mainly I am looking to industrialise and sell tech 2 BP copies and also make a few tech 2 items from the tech2 BPO I have and see if there is a market for them. at this point however I am not sure there is 1Bn isk a month in that (and I need more to be comfortable), but time will tell

As far as skills go yeah Its all in the name, alpha injectors for alpha skills; its obvious once someone points it out lol. I had a few spare skill points knocking about for some reason so have managed to clear all the alpha skills I was short (which was convenient) so now it will all come down to me being able to make enough isk to afford the plex I need.

I am well placed to have a go and see how it plays out

You can fund Omega time with gameplay but it really does suck all enjoyment out of playing EVE. Personally I would just buy Omega time. EVE is not a free to play game so much as a game with a free trial that goes far beyond 14 days.

Especially as an Alpha clone making the billion plus that you need for PLEX is just a monotonous grind and it takes up so much time that you could be spending on content that you are actually interested in.

Good. Travel well.

One other thought in passing tho. At 135+ mil SP, you were around for a few years, initially? And, if you are like any other longer-term pilot, you will likely have a ton of crap, hoarded magpie-like and scattered around the universe? You might be surprised how much this old salvage, loot, redundant modules etc could add up to.

Depending on your region of space, third-party groups will take that crap off your hands for something like 70-90 cents in the dollar. This is vs Jita BUY price. This is both a rip-off and highly convenient. Not least 'cause you do not need to haul anything and would get paid in like 0-2 hours (at the right times of day).

How it works in highsec is, as long as your stuff is in an NPC station, you select “all”, hit CTRL+C to copy the list and then paste it into the external web page of “Highsec Buyback”. Their calculator will show you what they will pay, up to 90 % of Jita’s market-buy prices. If you like their number, you simply contract the same selected items to them, in-game, enter that calculated number as your asking price and, it is done. I believe there is also a sister LS group that pays 70%. For nul sec? I have no idea.

The above do also take ships but at greater discount prices, due to the volumes to haul. So, stick to local market/ private contracts for those. This just an idea for how you might be able to covert unwanted “stuff” to “cash”. Use or lose as you see fit. However, just remember that your first target might be to earn 2.5B isk to buy 30 days omega upfront ie with no discount. Reason for this is two-fold. First, omega gives you twice the training speed for any skills you still need to fill-in. Second, I suspect you will need omega to do the very manufacturing you want to do to affored any additional PLEX !

Final thought. You might not be aware that you can sell your skill points? You will have to google details, but roughly … you buy skill extractors, extract 500 k SP per extractor, then sell each as what is then known as a large skill injector.

Quick look at the game market and you can buy extractors for 460 mil isk, then sell injectors for minimum 830 mil isk. Still chicken and egg ie you still need isk upfront, but now your target is down to 0.5 Bil isk initially.

So, buy an extractor, extract, sell, make 370 mil isk profit. Buy second extractor, sell. Then buy 2 extractors with combined profits, and off you go until you have enough cash. You might well be attached to ALL your SP, but as a thought exercise: if you went from 135 M SP down to 100 M, that would be 35 M skill points/ 0.5 M SP extractors = 70 injectors @ 370 mil isk nett profit. That would pay for a one year sub upfront and give you some additional “cash”.

You would have to take advice as to what sort of SP to lose. But, say you have trained all sub-capital ships across all four races and decide you hate Amarr ships? You could then selectively remove all Amarr-related skills. Or, you could decide never to fly freighters again and remove those skills. But you get the idea. Or, just bite the bullet as Albert suggests and pay for a sub!

T2 BPO’s will fund your game for a good amount of time, dependant on the type, hit up a broker and they should be able to sort you out, alternatively transfer all your stuff to me and I will provide you with a fair ISK price
