I kept old important emails in the mail tab for years. Some from 2021.
I rarely logged into the game for the last year, sometimes once every 2-3 months. And today discovered that all the old letters had disappeared, the oldest letter I have left is from 2025.
Tell me please, was there any global cleaning of emails while I was away?
No, I have emails from 2018 still.
However, there is a max size to the mailbox.
This is by design. If you have more than 1000 mails (something like that), the oldest mails disappear from YOUR view. CCP still has access to them and if you delete some mails, older mails return to YOUR view.
This is a fairly new thing (introduced at some point in the last 5 years) and it’s a huge PITA for channel moderation.

It’s been a while since I last did this (2 years maybe). But I believe the in-game mail just have a display limit. I pulled mails from like 2006 using the API. So they’re all there, just not showing.
If ever a pilot were to receive an evemail from Chribba then that evemail would be printed framed and hung on a wall in a room that stores greatness.
