o/ friends. Jimer Lins here, returning slowly to the game after almost ten years away. I have zero idea what’s changed since 2016, and I’m almost afraid to ask.
I used to do a lot of PVP, but I’m not really interested in going back to that right now- I’m more interested in relearning exploration and salvage. But it’s been so long I might as well be a noob, and I know a ton must have changed in terms of game mechanics and so on.
So if anyone is willing to give me the 50 thousand foot overview of what’s different from a decade ago, and where I should be looking for more info, it’d be appreciated!
Hotdropparoundtheclock. If you try to fly anything that isn’t incredibly cheap (frig/destroyers) or pure Nano, you will be hotdropped and eradicated. Unless you are part of one of the incredibly large blue-trains of course. Then you are the bait for other hotdroppers…
Massmultiboxing everywhere. Yes, there are people attacking smaller groups with 10, 20 or 30 ships at once. And yes, that can easily be Marauders. Or Highsec Gankers. Or they are farming group content with these.
Insurgencies can make Lowsec temporary into Nullsec (yes, with Bubblecamps, Bombs and all that stuff) and HighSec temporary into LowSec (yes, People will gatecamp and kill you and no CONCORD will come)…
DOT weapons can tag your ship with a damage over time effect, that will kill you even if you win the fight or break tackle and warp away. Oh, and tank doesn’t really help, they ignore resistances and do damage based on a percentage of your HP.
But hey, we have ship Skins now and better visuals and docking animations!
A LOT has changed. It would probably make more sense to re-read up on the activities you’ll be doing (e.g. salvaging, scanning, etc) as if you started from zero, than to list all the changes of the past 10 years.
We have some cool new ships (Babaroga). Some new space (Pochven, for example). We have new methods of travel (filaments). So, I’d look into those things more specifically. I don’t remember if the Trigs were already there 10 years ago or not, so it’s difficult to list stuff for that reason as well. I’d have to open EVE history of patches and you can just as well do that on your own.
No, Trigs didn’t exist, and filaments sound bizarre, but interesting. I used to spend a ton of time poking around in wormholes when we weren’t on PVP campaigns.
I have so much crap scattered around the galaxy. I think I’m going to just sell most of it in place, buy some basic exploration gear or refit some of my covert ops ships, and do some playing around in highsec away from Jita and hubs. Maybe poke into some wormholes.
One thing I found interesting is that I read that shuttles have interdiction nullifiers built in- is that true, and if so, how does that work? I’ve got a clone deep in nullsec that I’d just as soon get out, but I don’t care THAT much about the implants he’s got. But if it’s easy to get him out in a shuttle, I will.
It works just like if the bubble wasn’t there. The shuttle won’t get caught in a bubble. can still be smartbombed easily, though. Also, some ships can fit an Interdiction Nullifier mod to give them the same effect, but that’s a story for another time.
Aye, I read up on the high-slot module, seems straightforward enough- activate it while under gate cloak, align, warp and cloak, watch cooldown timers.
I was unclear on how it works with shuttles because there’s no module to activate. Sounds like it’s just on all the time.
Yes, it’s a hull-specific attribute. When they changed it for shuttles they removed interdiction nullification from interceptor hulls and gave the function to shuttles. I personally didn’t welcome this change but some guys advocated for shuttle nullification rather than interceptor nullification, for reasons I don’t quite follow.
