I have noticed that i have to be a Omega player before i can aquire my next ship,i am currently useing the Venture for minning but want the bigger Prospect and even if i buy it i cant use it,i dont suppose there is anyway around this,any advice appreciated.
Hey - If you don’t plan to get Omega through either buying it or in-game means, you’ll be limited in the ORE ship tree.
I’d say - progression isn’t always a bigger ship, IE better tech fits and support skills.
I’m not a miner but it might be worth looking into what nation specific ships people run for mining for things like gas mining.

You can use an Alpha Account to explore the game, and participate in many activities.
However, to excel and progress you simply will want to have an Omega Sub at some point. Well, thats what the company that offers you this game lives from.
So, if you like EVE and want to progress: Sub. Its cheaper than one big Pizza plus a Coke, for an entire month and probably many hours of gameplay.
Ahh, and find a Corp. This game sucks when trying to do it solo from the beginning. There is no “path” you need to follow and no “end” to reach. The goal is to find other people and cooperate, conspire or brawl it out with them. Staying Alpha forever will severly limit you, however there is nothing wrong with staying Alpha for a while just to dip your nose into multiple areas and activties.

There is nothing wrong with a Venture, it is a very capable ship. However, its best use is not in High Security space but in Low Security Space. Mining rarer ores which occur in LoSec is very profitable.
LoSec rats may be an issue, so get good drone skills and don’t forget you can speed tank some of the more formidable LoSec rats (ie orbit them close at full speed - they will not be able to hit you). You may also want to keep a reasonably well fitted destroyer (eg an Algos with 5 drones) close as your two Venture drones will not always be able to take care of the rats.
Finally, keep an eye on local chat and use dScan. Rats are one problem, other players are another.
