Open question to the Devs regarding Intel Design Flaw

(The Icefox) #1

For those that may not be aware. Intel did a bad: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/01/whats-behind-the-intel-design-flaw-forcing-numerous-patches/

My question for the Devs, How do you anticipate this impacting server performance? How will you be addressing the issue going forward? Will this adversely affect game play as the issue is addressed?

CCP runs their own dedicated hardware and they can trust everything running on that box. They can thus opt out of this patch, as the attack vector just isn’t there.

This. It should largely be a non-issue for clusters.

Other web-facing servers like community, forums, and secure, will be affected, but their performance isn’t as critical at the New Eden clusters.
