I would really like to see the addition of indicators on locked targets to denote:
If a target is being orbited.
Which weapon slot(s) is/are currently active against the target (based on the F-key).
It would also be nice if we had a sec status icon for pilots with a 5+ sec status. There are icons for below 0 and below -5 but nothing to denote high sec status.
Directly above the shield/armor/hull is a display telling you your current orbit if you have one. Also tells you approach and keep at range.
I thought it already highlighted the modules in the HUD that you have activated on the target, if you put the cursor on the target. Also, aren’t there little icons directly under to tell you? Sounds like you need to learn to manage your weapon groups better.
As far as the sec status, the reason there is no tag for above is because there is no point. Positive Security Status doesn’t bring with it any benefits or penalties, so there’s no need to indiciate anything more than they have it in the positive. If someone’s security status is -5, they’re a free target for anyone who can lock them down, CONCORD won’t intervene, but if their security status is -4.99, then you get CONCORDed.
True, knowing I’m orbiting e.g., a Pithi Demolisher, is somewhat useful. However, if I have three Pithi Demolishers currently locked, it would be more useful to know the specific Pithi Demolisher I’m orbiting at the moment. Maybe with a nice little circle icon overlaid on the target?
It does, but that’s not an efficient method of tracking weapon-to-target status when you are e.g., trying to manage 30+ hostile targets in the overview, you’re locking targets and cycling multiple weapon groups in a constant turnover, and also flipping your orbit points every now and then to bring target clusters into range. The less I have to move my mouse around, the better.
And yes, the icon underneath informs that there is a e.g., launcher on the target. However, if I have three launcher groups, that indicator is, again, less useful than it could otherwise be.
Just spit-balling here, but it seems like an ever-present visual indicator that can be checked at a glance while I’m selecting targets and toggling function keys like a crack addict would be… well, that’d just be a little bit more efficient, now wouldn’t it?
I disagree. I mean, I’m sure there’s some 4D chess player out there who’d spent months bringing his sec status up to 5.0 just so he could lure some unsuspecting gank target into a false sense of security and execute the perfect rug pull. And maybe there’s a dude out there with -5 sec status who just found Jesus and will never again fire his blasters at an unarmed target. But both of those folks have got to be a rare exception.
In the other 99.999% of cases, the person with a 5.0 (much less a legacy 5.1) is not likely to trash that rating just to gank a miner for lulls. So if you see that guy show up in a belt, he’s probably there for the rats. Just like if you see a -5.0 pilot warp in, you know he’s probably there for a KM.
It’s a behavioral predictor, plain and simple.
EDIT to point out: Sec status below 0 but above -5 confers no penalty, and yet there is an indicator for it. Why? Because it provides useful intel. An icon indicating max security status would be no different.
