We’ve been waiting since 1838.
I know it’s EVE tradition to find the doom and gloom in everything, but after having immediately quit cold turkey when Pearl Abyss bought CCP Games, I am blown away. I didn’t think this would happen.
- Get rid of skill injectors. Phase them out.
- Reduce and then eliminate all P2W avenues that might remain.
- Purge the game of botting. I’d also quit because of the widespread bot farming in 0.0 that was not being addressed.
- Commit anew to never supporting P2W.
- Eliminate EVE Frontier.
- Integrate your spinoffs as expansions to EVE itself, part of the ship, part of the crew. Stop doing standalone spinoffs. Stop making them to chase fads.
Do these things, and I will come back, many of my long quit friends will also come back. Hell, I might even call the office in Rekyavik and ask if there is a role there that would work for me. I loved working there once. I’m not above doing it again if the company and the development philosophy once more aligns with my ethos.
Welcome back, CCP. I sincerely hope this is the start of the recovery and renaissance of EVE Online.
Oh and eliminate PLEXing accounts. That’s Pay to Win. If you’re going to get rid of Skill Injectors, you’d need to do away with Multi-Boxing too right? Too many corps have infinite ISK because of Multi-boxing and botting.
Agreed, or at the least regulate it hard so the market is tiny. The problem PLEX set out to fix though, was ISK selling. We thought it was so clever back then…at least now the ISK selling was in-house and could be put to use for the development of the game. It didn’t stop the ISK sellers, just made them switch to farming rare loot and modules instead.
Sell CCP Games to spaceX. ![]()
What about character bazaar?
Could you give your reasoning on this? Was there some specific or tangible way P2W made you guys quit? Thanks.
Best of luck CCP…I’m sincerely cheering for you…
Time will come when EveOnline will take a bow, say thank you and farewell capsuleers. See you among the stars. ![]()
I don’t get it? None of your points have anything to do with Pearl Abyss and were introduced years before CCP was sold?
So why exactly did you jump ship when CCP was sold and not two years before?
#1, 2, and 4 is not likely to happen. Once they introduced this stuff, players adapted, the game changed, and CCP became financially dependent on it. At this point, years down the road, it’s practically impossible to put that genie back in the bottle.
#3 They could and should do.
#5 Frontier wasn’t at the behest of PA, but some other investor. CCP also got $40m (if I remember correctly), and they can use Frontier as a testing ground for new tech and mechanics that are at least relevant to EVE. If you’re mad about spin-offs, you should be more upset about Vanguard than Frontier.
#6 No! Why would you want to see these harebrained ideas get integrated into EVE itself? If they’re going to experiment with stuff like this, it’s better they firewall it off in another game, test it there, and only when things don’t fail, backport it to EVE. That said, I do agree they should stop chasing fads and focus instead on their core product.
Selling out was simply the last straw, that’s all.
As for other questions…true, I’ve clearly been gone for some time, since the day PA acquired CCP Games, in fact. We still need to end P2W in general, then end close around ISK/item farming for $$. As for Vanguard and Valkyrie, I miss Dust514. The idea was great, the dead console platform lock was not. Not being on PC and part of EVE itself was arguably one of the bigger reasons it failed. Vanguard could perhaps do better this way. As for Valkyrie…I’d enjoy playing as some other player’s pilot of one of their Fighters from time to time. Could simply be an optional play mode by contract.
Look, I’m as open minded again as I once was in 2003. Getting out of EVE for a few years has some really great healing benefits for the psyche…like not always being skeptical of everything and no longer paranoid and expecting only the worst. Let’s have some hope here? Without PA pressuring CCP to squeeze cash out of players via P2W schemes, maybe we can have the game we loved back? If not, well, there’s always history to leave it in.
I liked Dust514 as well, but I think Vanguard has been a huge diversion of resources for CCP that is unlikely to pay off in the future. Platform lock-in was Dust’s fatal flaw. I think for Vanguard, it will be chasing a saturated market niche years too late.
roflmao Hilmar is the one who implemented every single one of the things you want gone.
No, it was definitely a major flaw but one that could have been corrected with minimal effort by porting to other platforms, the fatal flaw was not having it be directly inside EvE proper, like Elite: Dangerous added with Odyssey.
What p2w??
I can create a new account, swipe my card and have a max skilled pilot and any ship I want and be sitting in a nice, safe null corp farming away for trillions in an hour.
May not be P2W, but it’s definitely pay to get to “end game”, so to speak. Sure, others have years of skill learned from having to grind and will absolutely outplay the new player with the credit card, but another credit card swipe nullifies any combat loss so it becomes moot.
why don’t they focus on expanding the EVE online universe but have to spread thin with all this side projects??? What the hell!!! The numbers are there that EvE online was, is and will be their flag ship till the end of time and yet they still waste money, time and resources on some side kicks, if all that was instead invested in EvE online it would have looked so much better - visually, game play wise, etc. and would have attracted so many more players which they have hoped to attract with these new games!
Probably CCP themselves don’t believe that EVE will last much longer.
Because it’s very rare for one company to only have a single 20 year old niche product and expect to make a profit which is after all the point of a business. Smart businesses diversify their product lines and identify new opportunities to make money.
hahaha! 23 years so far! They don’t because they still have no idea what they have created. Their behavior is like the one of a person who was digging the sand to reach the water and instead some black thick sticky liquid started bubbling out and they had no idea what to do with it!
