Please, need advice: Which Thinkpad to buy?

Hi everyone. I wanna buy a thinkpad for play EvE, I do not need high-level graphics, I just need to run mostly 1 window, sometimes 2.

And I think that thinkpad is an good option, but which one? I thought about T480, but… need something cheap. Somebody experienced play on that? how it runs, it is ok?

Posting a possible budget and what models you are already looking at is helpful for answering your questions.

You would want something with at least 8gb of ram. Maybe an intel or AMD equivalent of an I5?

I also want to bet good money you can do something better than that.

Runs ok on my X1 Carbon (Gen8). If you want better graphics though I’d opt for one with a better GPU. Although the X1’s may be out of budget.

I’ve used Lenovo’s for the past 15 years and EVE has always played nicely on my X220/T520/X1’s, but def having to start reducing the graphics settings compared to previously, which is no surprise.

Oh, yeah. Situation: I have 2 Macbook Air M1, 16gb RAM. But they very often become very worm, for example in FW site, and I won’t use them because of it and MB airs my working machines. I travel a lot, that’s why I use Laptops + portable monitors.

Budget? I thought to buy a refurbished or used on ebay or amazon, I find a lot of thinkpads around 300-400 usd, that’s a perfect budget for that. As @Chribba mention, Carbon X1 also an option because in a budget.

If honestly I do not care about graphics  I love EvE for other things. But budget is more important, because I’ll be using this in travel as secondary laptop. Tnx for advice. So If I buy T420s or T520 I’ll be fine?

I got a thinkpad with the 6850U processor and its really good. Strong integrated graphics card and super low TDP with some windows tweaks. When im just browsing it pulls 9w watt from the socket despite being such a powerful processor. Ive also disabled CPU boost to keep it cool and quiet and its about a 20% performance decrease in benchmarks. But in games i think its less because the CPU cannot run with boost on for long without to throttle anyway. So if you can i suggest a thinkpad with 6850u ryzen processor. Thats all.

Dual channel ram is also important for gaming even if its DDR5. But its almost impossible to find a laptop with the 6800u or 6850u processor that also has dual channel ram

Huh, a bit expensive.

I spent $1,400 on mine but i intend to keep it for at least 4 years and its something i use every day. So thats why i decided it was worth it among other things.

But if you look for a laptop with ryzen 4500u, 5800u, 6800u or similar you cant go wrong. They have decent integrated graphics cards and make sure the laptop is dual channel ram as well, especially if its DDR4 caus thats a big deal for gaming in that case. I wish you luck with ur search

(Some variants of 4500u etc are called 4550, so worth searching 4550, 5850 and 6850 too. just my 50 cent, take care)
