Looking for a cheap laptop

Hi, after a few years, I’d like to return to the EVE universe.
My wife isn’t a fan of big computers, so I need a laptop. I’ve looked at a few, but the reviews are all over the place. Apparently, EVE runs on a potato, but then again, maybe not. I have a rather limited budget and hope you can help me out
On which cheap laptops do you play? Which one can you recommend?"
thanks

Unless you wish to continue being a minimalist while playing Eve Online then stick with a laptop.

If you want to enjoy New Eden and the updated graphics buy a desktop, though everyone is different.

Also most desktops outlast laptops when playung games.

I tried running EVE Online on a very low-end Intel N200 with passive cooling. It ran, but the processor got so hot that it would cause the computer to reboot. This was even with turning down all the graphics settings to their lowest settings for the integrated graphics.

It would probably run fine on an N200 with active cooling, though.

I also ran it just fine on an ancient 2016 Macbook Pro with Intel i7-6660U (which ironically is about the same as the N200 is in benchmarks–that’s technological progress for ya). That laptop also got pretty warm and the active cooling fan kicked up to high speeds. It didn’t crash, though, and I could play indefinitely at the lowest graphics settings. I sold that laptop recently for a mere $155, so you can definitely run EVE on a cheap laptop, whether new low-end or used high-end.

Personally, though, I would highly recommend a current-day gaming machine with a discrete GPU, whether it be a laptop or a desktop, and the graphics settings on medium. That way, the fans don’t kick in and the experience is more immersive. There are several gaming laptops on deep discounts for Black Friday.
