Please stop giving „free“ stuff for watching videos on Twitch, Discord, etc

Hello,

I wanted to give some feedback that I’m not a fan of the “free” content being offered for watching and following Eve content on other platforms like Twitch and now Discord. It feels like more and more content is being unlocked not through playing the game itself, but through participating in promotional campaigns from other companies, and you’re being pressured into doing so if you don’t want to miss out on the rewards.

I think it would be good if such things could only be earned by actually playing the game and not by anything outside of it (apart from Eve Vanguard, NES, etc.).

I don’t watch streams, never have, never will. No amount of rewards is gonna ‘‘pressure’’ me into doing it.

I can’t be sure, but the fact that they need to incentivize players to watch their streams with some ‘‘special’’ rewards., tells me there isn’t a lot of content there to see in the first place.

I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything anyway. If you do, you’re easily psychologically manipulated then.

I agree. CCP is addicted to giving away stuff.

For example i wanted to try out the new mining destroyer, but i got it for free in the first level of the new “Epic Arch”. But i was also making lots of ISK from daily goals and AIR career program.

It is a little bit boring when getting ISK, ships and items without using the market or producing it yourself.

There is a big list of games that do the same thing. Twitch All they are trying to do is build a community, is that so bad? If you don’t want to do the activity, just don’t do it. It’s not that hard…

If I’ve read my Eve History, isn’t abracadabra-ing a bunch of fitted pre-built ships into the game what people used to shoot monuments or crash the Jita node for?

Yes, but remember that people have been turning ships in at paragon stations for Evermarks, which is how CCP is getting around that (also they never stopped selling those starter packs).

Is CCP giving away ships in these Twitch drops? I was under the impression they were just giving away cosmetic items (SKINs and SKINR components).

Personally, I’m unbothered by this pretty bog-standard marketing move. Literally the only time I watch Twitch is when CCP livestreams Fanfest. Beyond that, I tune it out and couldn’t care less. If that means I miss out on some SKINs, so be it. I’ve already got more than enough SKINs I never use. :person_shrugging:

EDIT to add:

I see someone posted a screenshot to Reddit of some Discord giveaway for a fitted ship and SKIN. I’m still not terribly bothered by it.

Just dual monitor it. Have twitch on one screen, set to vol1 not muted so it counts as a viewer for the streamer, and play your game(s) on the other. Easy as pie.

People are under the impression that give aways exist for them, they don’t. They exist to increase traffic and engagement. CCP doesn’t offer you stuff because they care, they do it because it’s an investment in the hopes of making more players play more. It’s a marketing strategy, without it they wouldn’t offer you anything in the first place.

If you don’t like the requirement (watching Twitch in this case) for the free stuff you have the option to not bother, if you care enough about the “gifts” then you can choose to DO jump through the required hoops. You have agency and you have choice, but what you don’t get to have is having your cake and eat it.

You don’t have to watch/participate

I will watch as many streams as CCP wants me to for the ability to spin caps (or in my case, my freighters) as well as getting superior lighting in structures. The lighting better be as good as it is in Jita stations.

Certainly not going to do it for a damn venture that I can get for free.

Me either. The more ships there are in the game, the more there are for me to shoot at.

It seems you now don’t get only vanity items anymore, but actual ships…and not only actual ships…the adverstisement tells about fitted ships…

There should be zero rewards for watching Twitch.

You get 2 ventures from the career tutorial, and the modules you get along the way. None of this is new.

It’s not free, you have to pay for it with your time.

If you’re unwilling to pay the price, you don’t also still receive the item.
