That poor Porpoise, you know it needs a buff in the Fleet Hangar capacity,
Right now it is less than 8% of the Main Mining Hold at 5,000 m3.
This is nothing when talking resource harvesting with a few Exhumers on grid.
The constant transferring is staggering, save me the tendonitis.
Now in comparison,
The Orca’s Fleet Hangar is 25% of the Main Mining Hold which is significantly larger and holds 40,000 m3. No complaints.
The Main Mining Hold of the Porpoise is Half that of the Orca which is fine seeing how its a smaller vessel but if they kept the same ratio then the Porpoise should get an increase to 15% of its Main. This would be a significant boost in efficiency as you would be able to stay in field a cycle or two longer and you wouldnt have to transfer from extraction to storage as quickly.
anyway what do you all think
I know what you mean, even when I’m boosting a single Hulk I often have to click multiple times to deliver to the Porpoise and then drag the ore to the Porpoise’s ore bay.
I can see how this would take a lot more clicks when boosting multiple Exhumers.
I understand the request for the buff, I’m just not sure if I agree with it.
For one, the Porpoise is a fantastic mining fleet boosting ship, the most popular mining booster from what I have seen in space, and the mining booster I use most of the three. I don’t think a ship that popular is in need of a buff.
Next, there should be some incentive to move up to an Orca. If you are mining boosting multiple exhumers and mine enough that you think “mining in an Orca would be easier right now”, which according to your examples of how more convenient the Orca’s fleet hangar is is the case for you, I think the game is balanced well. Yes, you should feel like putting the bigger risk and ISK of an Orca in the belt is a nice step up in a lot of factors, convenience is one of them. Without multiple of such incentives, what’s the point of an Orca?
Lastly 5000m3 is a significant amount of cargo space for a ship half the weight of a cruiser. Even though the fleet hangar cannot be increased with cargo expanders, compared to big-cargo ships 5000m3 is almost double the amount of cargo T1 haulers, and still more cargo space than the base value of blockade runners. Add the other bays (ore bay, fuel bay), very good agility and ability to do the ‘MWD cloak’ trick even with an afterburner and this mining support ship is pretty close to competing with haulers for the job of hauling.
I don’t think the Porpoise needs a buff.
