I think it can be argued that thinking is, by its nature, active. In the chess analogy a person who’s reliant on whatever passive options they have have either already made a series of poor moves or their opponent has already made a series of excellent moves. That there’s nothing a player about to lose a game of chess can do to avoid their impending loss does not excuse all the moves that led up to that moment from consideration.
Whether CCP changes Eve or not will rest on just how strongly they believe that the current crop of players have lost the resilience necessary to ward off the emotional hurt of losing a ship in a PvP game unexpectedly.
I have, in my time, suffered numerous losses. Some of which were embarrassingly stupid of me and easily avoidable had I been smarter at the time. I considered that to be part of the experience I signed up for. I have to wonder if people have grown too fragile for that. If they haven’t, then I see nothing wrong with players, however new, losing a ship once they’ve learned to pilot it out of the starter systems. If the corvette is so weak as to be non-viable as a newbie safety net, then buff that and let the new players be happy they get free ships for life no matter how many mistakes they make.

If that had been my barge I’d have had damage control in low slot. Also, at 10 weeks the player ought to be onto T2 shields, armour, etc. But then Lucas ignores the fact that tank and avoidance measures are the best form of AG. That barge really oughtn’t to have been zapped by 4 Catalysts.

I’ve tried to gank a barge in a solo cata. Not enough DPS unless really crappy fit or you get lucky.
