Dear CCP Team,
Efficient information management is crucial for the operation of corporations and alliances in EVE Online. Currently, many organizations rely on Message of the Day (MOTD) in chat channels to store and share important content such as fleet doctrines, policies, jump bridge locations, mining schedules, and more. However, this method has several limitations that make accessing vital information inconvenient and inefficient.
Additionally, the shared notebook feature is not just for corporations and alliances; it can be used in a much broader way. For example, I can record my personal growth experiences and insights in the shared notebook and share them with new players, helping them adapt to the game more quickly and grasp key knowledge, thereby enhancing the overall gameplay experience. This feature can facilitate knowledge transfer between players, making it easier for newcomers to integrate into the EVE universe and fostering a more supportive and developmental game environment.
Issues with the Current MOTD System:
Frequent channel switching required:
- To find different types of information (tactics, manufacturing, market, jump bridge locations, etc.), players often need to switch between multiple channels, which is extremely cumbersome.
Scattered information:
- Different channels have separate MOTDs that are not centrally managed, making it difficult for members to find key information.
New players have a harder time adapting:
- Even veteran players find it troublesome, and new players often have no idea which channels contain which information, significantly raising the learning curve.
Information locked behind specific channels:
- Players must first join the correct channel to access important information.
- If a player leaves or forgets the channel, they lose access to critical data.
Limited editing & management flexibility:
- Only channel administrators can edit the MOTD, meaning members cannot freely contribute or update information.
- MOTDs have a character limit, and excessive information can make them cluttered and hard to navigate.
Proposed Solution: A Shared Notebook System
To address these issues, we propose a new “Shared Notebook” feature, similar to the current Shared Locations (Bookmarks) system. This would provide a more efficient and centralized way for corporations, alliances, and individual players to manage and share key information.
Key Features of the Shared Notebook System:
Stores essential corporation, alliance, and personal information (such as MOTDs, fleet doctrines, market data, manufacturing plans, personal notes, and growth insights).
Customizable access permissions, similar to shared bookmarks:
- Options to share with corporation, alliance, specific players, or the public.
- Designated members or friends can edit, while others have view-only access.
Direct access for all members without needing to join specific channels.
Information organized into categories (e.g., “Fleet Tactics,” “Logistics Guide,” “Market Prices,” “Personal Growth Notes”).
Search and quick retrieval to prevent important information from being lost in chat logs.
Benefits of This Feature:
More efficient information sharing:
- Corporation and alliance members can access key information more easily without relying on MOTDs or specific channels.
- New players can quickly find essential guides, accelerating their learning process and improving training efficiency.
- Individual players can record and share their growth experiences, helping more newcomers get started and promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing.
Better organizational management:
- Corporation and alliance leadership can use a well-structured shared notebook to improve coordination in fleet operations, logistics, and industry management.
- Assigning specific members editing privileges ensures that information remains accurate and up-to-date.
Promotes personal growth and community interaction:
- The shared notebook isn’t just for organizational use; it also serves individual growth and experience sharing.
- Players can use it to record insights, mission workflows, and market trends, making it easier to optimize their strategies.
- Veteran players can share their experiences with newcomers, helping them quickly integrate into the game, improving overall community engagement.
Enhanced gameplay experience, reducing unnecessary hassle:
- All key information is stored in one place, eliminating the need to switch between multiple channels.
- Whether for PvP alliances, PvE industrial groups, or newbie-friendly corps, this feature would streamline communication and coordination.
Conclusion
EVE is a player-driven universe, where efficient information management is essential for success. A Shared Notebook system would not only improve information management for corporations and alliances but also help individual players record and share knowledge, ultimately enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
We hope CCP will consider this suggestion and continue refining the tools that make EVE Online an unparalleled sandbox experience. Thank you for your dedication to improving the game!
