Hello and thank you for taking a moment to read this post.
As the title says, i am geniunly curious has to the Pros and cons to running a corperation. I have looked this up, checked out videos i could find on youtube and any other information i could find.
I am curious from a players perspective what are the pros and cons to being in a corp or running a corp.
One prominent one when it comes to specifically running a corp means you have your own wallet divisions and shared wallet between your alts that are in the same corp which is very useful.
Also the same is also a good way to avoid being scammed or as a result of a typo wasting a bunch of ISK, you just keep your cash in the corp wallet and only transfer some to your personal one when you plan to pay for something.
The main pro of being part of a corp is that you have a group of people to fly with so you can enjoy the cooperative multiplayer aspect of EVE.
While you can play EVE alone, many ships in EVE are made for multiplayer fleets. Mining support ships, remote logistics ships, ewar, tackle⌠you wonât experience half the game if you arenât part of a group.
While flying with other players doesnât require a corporation - there also are public Not-Purple-Shoot-It (NPSI) fleets that you can join for cooperative gameplay - being part of a corporation and doing fleets together is a lot of fun. At least it is in my opinion.
One other pro of having a corporation is that your corporation can anchor and defend structures that you can live out of. While a single player likely wonât be able to defend a structure against hostile players, a corporation with enough players can do so. Structures have a bunch of advantages that the NPC stations do not have, can pull moon ore, cheap jump clones and more.
A downside of being part of a corporation with structures is that high sec players can declare war against you. âHigh sec playersâ only? Well, war is irrelevant anywhere but in high sec, so there are some high sec groups that declare war against bigger corporations/alliances to get easy legal kills in High sec space.
My recommendation is to find a fun corporation to join no matter if you wish to play solo or in groups. Even as part of a corporation you can play solo, but then you also have the possibility of grouping up and have a group of people who can help you in this game.
I have no experience with running a corp, I imagine itâs a lot of space work especially if the corp is bigger.
Itâs not without reason that many players say that âplaying in a good corp makes all the difference for EvE Onlineâ.
As to being in a corp, if that is your social call, Iâd only add a few things to what was already written.
Pros:
it opens up the scope of the game, things you canât do solo or only with great difficulty
it is a force and skill multiplier
you feel the need to contribute to the group, which is a reward on its own.
Cons:
you may feel the need to contribute to a group on less concenient moments, lol
As to running a corp, itâs no different than running a small (initially) business. It requires determination if not passion to succeed. It will want your daily attention. It will require a vision and a plan, and more than likely some rules. You will need other people to help run it, which are not easy to find. You will be faced with the constant need for recruitment, as the membership turnover for many small organizations is around 50-60% per year. Above all, you will have to find ways to make your corp worthwhile to be in, in other words activities of all sorts, eventually even some serious benefits. And all this while maintaining and guarding a positive, drama free environment. In other words, it requires leadership qualities and people knowledge, unless you run a tax haven for people who only care about wallets, lol.
The biggest hurdle is the turnover during the early stages, regular membership and even directors leaving or simply stopping playing. If you already know people of a similar mindset, that would be a good starting place. If you donât, itâs going to be rougher and take far longer.
A priceless and rewarding experience if it works out, a possible burnout if it doesnât. Been there, done that, my nullsec corp threw in the towel collectively after some very ill-received announcements from ccp in 2015. Iâm the only one who ever came back to play EvE again, years later. Now Iâm learning again from people who are far better than anyone I encountered during my first tour of five years.
