I’m guessing that they assumed it would increase Omega subscriptions. This is what I thought would happen initially as well. You can’t log in Alphas at the same time as Omega, so I assumed players needed new Omega accounts to create these unique alts that they kept killing off. I missed the fact that you can set a timer on your Alpha alt, log them out and then get on your Omega/Alpha and still kill your Alpha that way and it would count. (Although I’m still disagreeing that it isn’t a violation of EULA, but I understand it’s just an alternative interpretation).
I also thought that the ones who used their own alts to ‘‘participate’’ in this event would run out of alpha ships to kill at some point --due to competition from other players-- and would still need to pay for Omega during this event in order to get ahead. This is what CCP might have assumed as well. But as it turns out, the event is not as popular as to push kill counts into Omega hulls. You can game this whole event in 100% Alpha accounts.
Complete fail of an event. I wanna see how CCP will announce the winners with a straight face. And if I ever see another Alpha complain that CCP doesn’t create content or opportunities for them to make ISK I’m gonna laugh.
top 5 now just pure cheesing, I doubt a single pvper will even get a runners up now ![]()
Maybe they were concerned about having too many corvettes in the game, so they wanted to give players a reason to use them?
So, i have been thinking the ways people can game the system and what a good rule set would be.
I think only thing i can think of is have the event run for like 1 month, no rules you can kill anything you want.
But the prize money is directly linked to 80% of the estimated value of the hull + the modules that did not drop. (the ones that do drop you can collect anyways)
For example, if someone kills lets say 5 ishtars a day which would be equal to 1 Bil ISK. and the reward will be 30 Bil if they continue to do the same and end up in lets say top 100 or whatever.
This way, its less of a hassle, you wont gain anything (actually loose since its like 80%) by destroying your own alts and also gain nothing from paying random guys to blow their ship for you.
I know its more of an incentive than an actual event, but then again its better than this for sure.
——-
Unrelated to event, speaking of incentives you could just add an in game mechanic for 100% item drop for solo kills also permanantly or even add the hull value payout also if they really wanna go that far, but i understand if CCP doesnt want to give an incentive for solo pvp over others if they want the game to be directed towards fleet pvp. Which is understandable, but as a solo pvper, i wouldnt object and 100% would play the game more if added as solo pvp is always costly, and this would compensate and encourage people to do it more.
Another option would be to NOT TELL THE PLAYERS until the event is over. Just reward people for normal PvP, instead of advertising it.
One solution is to simply use zkillboard’s own methodology. I have no idea why CCP rejected this. Shuttles, corvettes, and pods should have been disqualified from solo stats. There should have been three separate metrics: kills, points, and isk value. This approach is integral to zkillboard’s functionality.
By having three means of measurement, zkillboard screens out padding. You can pad a bunch of kills, but you won’t get isk destroyed. You can pad isk destroyed, but you won’t get points. It is cumbersome to try all three, and while some people do try, they inevitably exhaust themselves. Utilizing points would have meant that ships need to be fitted. Measuring isk destroyed would mean that shuttles and freighters do NOT have the same weight. Finally, retaining kills as sheer quantity, ensures that someone does not win simply by killing a high value target. One can only succeed in this system by performing well in all three categories, and it becomes prohibitively expensive (both in time and cost) to game this system.
The problem is CCP paid lip-service to “we will follow zkillboard’s rules” but completely ignored the entire system, and they simply created a mindless “total kills” ladder which has been rejected by the EvE community for more than a decade. Beyond zkillboard’s methodology, additional restrictions would have helped. Kills should have been limited to one per system, forcing players to move around. Furthermore, kills against players less than 30 days old should have been automatically disqualified, to stop players from creating alts for the contest.
CCP should either discuss contests with the CSM, or they should create an InterStellar Council (ISC) which would serve as a feedback group, allowing CCP to communicate with players and avoid debacles like this contest.
I’m betting that the CSM knew all about this well before it was announced publicly,
I’m currently 16th on the lowsec board with 7 people alt shooting ahead of me. What a great event!
Might feel like a pile on, but as someone who actually does a fair ammount of solo pvp in WH space, i want to give feedback and this event is an absolute farce!
The only people on the leaderboard just keep killing friendlies endlessly in empty hulls … great stuff, rewarding people for rolling alpha clones and destroying cheap hulls!
This event is an absolute failure! If it was up to me, id not even pay out the rewards and forget that it ever happend. The only thing this event is going to do, is piss off anybody who actually does solo pvp in the game, the theoretical target audience for this event.
And if you dont want to scrap the entire thing (which i have very little hope for), for gods sake, dont ever bring this back. Anything like this would need a very, very different kind of approach, that cannot be exploited so extremly easily. Which is probably not super easy to do, but darn, this aint it!

It’s truly amazing how so many 3 day old accounts in unfit ships seem to be mass migrating to Querious. Must be part of the new player experience!
Anyone participating with even 1 faux kill should be completely disqualified if you want this contest to have any dignity or recognition. Otherwise it’s just a display of who was willing to create the most alt accounts.
turned out to be true
why has CCP just stopped responding on this forum page? Its like the people are discussing it and they are just ignoring everyone now.
They will be along shortly to celebrate the greatest padders!

nt ccp
make plex crazy again
i guess they not and dont care what csm say
actrually i see csm do things these years dont over one hand
Thats why I like WH space. No need to care for all those - mostly annoying - events and stuff.
Just dipping out into KSpace for some raids or using the market.
