PVP Fest is coming!

What I find laughable than people gaming the system (in EVE there will always be that and to a point it’s perfectly acceptable) is that apparently you can do it all on alpha accounts! Come on CCP! You’re gonna hand out an 81b+ reward to people who (supposedly) use alphas to achieve their lead?

They won’t.

Are you seriously defending this Osprey Navy Issue | Elonen Hinken | Killmail | zKillboard kind of ‘pay to win’ mentality ?

Is it ship type or hull type?
If I kill a Tengu, and a Proteus, will it be 1 point for the Strategic Cruiser hull type, or 1 point for each ship type?

each

defend? no. CCP said that this was pretty well expected and ‘part of the contest’

and I quote . . .

What’s stopping me from making alts and killing them to increase my score?

Nothing is stopping you (or anyone else) from doing that. If you want to spend time, invest in, and then kill 1,500 alts in different ships in different areas of space, that’s up to you.

Why would CCP want a ‘contest’ like this?

It could be any of the following things and all of them are bad.

  1. Already knew, dont give a f, “thinks” its too much effort to design better set of rules.

  2. Partially knew that alts will come in to picture but didnt think of alpha alt strat — which points to “laziness”, “dont care much to evaluate the rules thoroughly”, “overconfident in their ability to design rules and understand their own game mechanics”, “overconfident that it would play out ok”

  3. Someone else came up with the rules, didnt care to review them, just went along with it.

They knew who will benefit from the rules and went with those to provide said benefit to those specific players.

And the gaming people could easily be remove from the rankings with Zkills Padding tags and other tags. That’s why Zkill has this tag: to show when people only generate worthless kill spam.

But with this lacking effort in event quality, event thoroughness and invested effort to make it an actual tournament-style event, it’s just so in character for the contemporary CCP.

It doesn’t affect me, I won’t be taking part.

However, there might be some out there trying to do this fairly and it does affect those players.

So take your attitude and disappear into the muted list.

What determines fair is what is defined by CCP. You are just saying things without any argument. Is killing some one fair ? No. But in game killing is considered fair game. So we go with it. By your standards everything is subjective.

Thats why i said there is no point blaming the players. If you want it to be fair as per your standards, then tell it to CCP so that at least they will come up with better rule set next time.

Everything is effort, once CCP has openly mentioned that whatever you consider not fair is actually fair game, then you cant blame those players. They have spent their time and effort to get those alt kills. Again i do acknowledge that, it doesnt represent the original idea of a solo pvp event for a person who thought of playing it the way you want them to be.

Rules are rules, whether they are ■■■■ or not. If you dont like them blame the people who made them.

I think CCP should make an InterStellar Council, an ISC staffed by experienced players who can provide meaningful feedback to help guide CCP so that it can avoid obvious mistakes. For example, this ‘contest’ would obviously have benefited from a rule that all kills would have to be on players older than 30 days. An additional rule would be a restriction that ships must be at least partially fitted and furthermore only one kill per system (forcing players to leave Jita).

Likewise, the rules stated that CCP would follow Zkillboard’s definition of ‘solo’, but CCP did the exact opposite and did NOT follow Zkillboard’s rules. CCP should have disqualified shuttles, corvettes, and pods.

No. The vast majority of people determine what is fair all on their own. As a matter of fact, it is a defining characteristic of humanity. CCP determines what they allow in their game that is all. There was nothing fair about this competition. Most people instantly understand this.

The perplexing thing is CCP knew something like this would happen, and instead of making efforts to prevent it, they explicitly allowed it.

Some of the ‘stellar’ pvp kills from one of our PvP fest leaders reads like player vs self completely avoiding any actual pvp and just recycling the slots.
the 2 above them provide the same calibre of ‘PvP’.
No videos, no participation, zero community engagement = 80b reward
it doesnt make sense, no matter how you bill it

totally agree. Its very easy to come up with a decent set of rules. Not sure why they didnt spend few minutes for it. But yeah, if they cant do it better get some feedback from players and then decide on rules.

Im sure most people would have pointed this out if they shared us the rules prior to announcing and starting it.

But then again maybe they knew it and didnt care, in that case why would they do this also.

I agree 100%. but what im trying to say is once CCP has said its ok to do that, it doesnt make sense for them to remove that. People already took their word and started participating and spending their own time and ISK on it. You cant change it now, but you can learn from mistakes and hopefully do a better one next time. Thats what im saying.

Nobody spent isk on recycling alpha alts.

i mean at least the hull price. obviously not that significant considering the prize pool. but surely their time.
