PVP Fest is coming!

I am looking forward to CCP and Squizz padding themselves on the shoulders over this fantastic event.

I hid the PVP Fest red flag on Zkill early on with UBlock and stuff like that is just one more reason to keep using UBlock.

@CCP_Zelus Should we expect any information about the event, or should this be seen as irresponsibility on the part of CCP?
I understand that CCP made many mistakes with this event, but completely ignoring the event and the players who, one way or another, invested their time and resources into participating isn’t entirely right for such a company.
However, if you look at it that way, the event felt like a joke from the very beginning. When it started, there was absolutely no information or tools for tracking rankings (except for a third-party one, PvP Fest Leaderboards | zKillboard ), neither on the official game resources nor in the game client itself. There was also no information about how exactly players would receive their rewards for participation.
And in-game, it felt like many people weren’t even aware of the event.
Naturally, everything could have been done much better, and I hope next time everything will be more carefully thought out to ensure the event is truly engaging and that there won’t be such a disregard for players.

Edit:
Thank you to everyone who participated, the event concluded at downtime/11 UTC on 17 Feb! We should have the final list in from the data team early next week and once we’ve had an opportunity to process and format it suitably we’ll be able to share it here!

Thanks for this update CCP Zelus, is there any way to get the results faster? ‘Early next week’ seems like a long time for a professional data team.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see who (if anyone) was playing the event but not linked to zKillboard, some people who think they’ve won stuff will probably be disappointed.

Finally, some news… thank you!

That’s a possibility, but even if you disable tracking, there’s a chance it will turn back on, but I don’t know how that works.

Probably if you log back in to zKillboard, you can end up connecting again, but I’m thinking more about people who never connected to it in the first place and only shot alts who had never connected - they would be completely leaderboard-invisible so far.

I also think that the zKillboard ranking code isn’t respecting the tie-break that CCP specified (whoever got those points first has preference) and there are a few prize-boundary tie-breaks showing up right now. There’s another counting glitch I suspect, but can’t prove, but I sent Squizz an in-game mail about it.

Edit: the tie break might be more complicated than this, see my next post, 3 below this one.

That’s confusing. Some people are claiming they were already paid, but CCP is saying the results have not been determined?

The original annoucement said :

While we’ll have our own internal tools for tracking the final scores, you’ll find a PvP Fest section on your individual pilot page on zKillboard, indicating what you’ve killed and where.

which I take to mean that the zKillboard event page is not the final word on the results. So we’re waiting on CCP to calculate and post them. I strongly doubt that any prizes will be awarded until the results are published.

After going back to that original announcement, I found :

How do you determine the finishing position if two people end up with the same score?

Whoever achieves that position first will hold it, in the case of a tie.

I had originally mis-interpreted this as “whoever gets that number of points first”, but what they actually said was concerning the ranking position, not the number of points. Working out which position was held first is computationally a lot tougher than working out which points total was held first (because you need to compile the rankings for every single server-tick* of the event instead of just checking who got their last kill earlier) .. so now I’m understanding why the data team have said “come back next week”.

*technically only the ticks where a killmail was issued, but it’s Eve, so that’s most of them.

Who is the more foolish, the fool or he who follows him ?

@CCP_Zelus Please tell Sven the Intern to hurry up pasting the zkill table in excell and sending us the plex. thanks.

i still have hope, ccp will sort guys like you out of that pvp fest competition.

they might have stated that u sure can use your time and create alts and shoot those, but they also never clarified that this behaviour will be rewarded with plex  ( semantics, ccp loves that type of ■■■■)

no Plex for you?

The follower is more foolish because they are able to recognize the problem but fail to take reasonable action to address the issue. Mistakes happen, but willfully blundering into inevitable situations is by definition foolish.

That would be hilarious.

Inb4 Sven only sends you 1 (one) PLEX by mistake and when asked about it CCP tells you our logs show nothing.
