I used 5 of my farm pilots as my slayers and made 8 new accounts. The new accounts got omega from the smallest mastery pack (so I spent 8 x 300 =2400 plex // enjoy your February bonus CCP Zelus! // ). There would be no way to use alpha accounts unless I was working with a partner - because you need both the slayer and the slayed online at the same time.
I did put a fair few hours into it. I thought it wasn’t excessive, but my kids have been calling me “That man that lives in the little bedroom” and the dog no longer greets me when I enter a room, so maybe I got more obsessed than I realised.
You could have just placed an alpha toon into a anchored warp disruption bubble and close the client. Logged out Alpha won’t warp away. Log in Omega, kill the Alpha. Repeat.
Such an event is a farce. It’s beyond me how this design could pass any quality control…
I can see now why I was nowhere near hitting the number 1 spot.
My plan largely involved using 5-ship noise needlejack filaments to take one wolf and four sheep to nullsec, all returning to base to re-ship via pod loss. (Is there a recycling bin for the packaging from 360 filaments?)
At first, I thought that the 10 hour cooldown on biomassing pilots was a hindrance, but after a while I realised it gave me a chance to actually sleep.
I am not sure if CCP counts the shooting of empty ships for the event. Even zkill can detect ‘padding’, CCP can for sure. My method generates a 100% ‘legit kill’.
The event announcement stated the points scoring system and clearly says that points are awarded 1 per ship (hull type) per region of space and a unique victim. It says nothing about ship fittings and indeed specifically states that shuttles count (and shuttles can’t have fittings).
The announcement says that they’ll use the zKillboard methodology for two things - the definition of “solo kill” and the valuations for the highest value kills per region.
I thought it was classed as an exploit when used to gain an advantage over others or when used to escape repercusions from actions taken (which I think using for this competition fits both very specifically, as killing unfitted alts that were recycled is both, as they faced zero consequence or repercussion from doing it)
I was also led to believe that using an alpha account while logged in with another account is also against the eula
Perhaps this is why CCP has not released the results.
They may be investigating some of the alts used during the competition! Another possibility is, just like the bounty system which was ‘temporarily’ removed in 2019, we will never hear of this again.
There may also be an issue with the killmails, I have at least one that should be dated 16 Feb that actually arrived on (and got datestamped as) 22 Feb. The starmap confirms that I was in that system only once and the last visit was 16 Feb.
[It was a loss rather than a kill, so in this case it’s in my favour not to count it, but if there’s one, there may be other affected killmails to process.]
