Remove weapon upgrades

Remove weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades and any skill that modifies fitting room and make it base line.

Sick and tired of explaining to newer players why the fit won’t work for them and attempting to convince them to train a fitting skill.

make all fits fit for everyone dear god

Just give everyone all the skills? make everyone equal. No need for any time investment into the game to get good?

sounds horrible.

And why in the wrong sub forum? much more appropriate for “general discussion”

No.

just fitting skills. Every fit should fit for every one without having to explain why they don’t have enough cpu but it works for me.

this forum is better.

make a skill plan to go with the fit then?

And No.

That’s exactly what i want to get rid of. I want to fly ruptures with some new bros and i have to figure out custom fits and skill plans for each individual.

This is not an uncommon sentiment. We need to be able to say fly this. And go have fun.

Definitely yes.

This problem has been solved by many corporations and players before you:

Just make a newbro-friendly version of the fit you wish to share.

Sure.

But the problem continues because training spaceship command is more fun. More importantly, making extra fits isn’t the main problem even if annoying.

The problem is that’s it’s difficult for a player to understand why their fit won’t work and what to do to fix it. Making the new player experience more smooth is an obvious benefit to Eve.

Making fitting baseline for each hull removes a confusing roadblock for new players and changes nothing for the rest of us

Instead or removing skills it’s better to add hints in the fitting window showing which skills could be trained or which implants could be injected to close the gap.

On the contrary, removal of skills changes a whole lot for the rest of us.

Fitting skills are only a small aspect of being able to fly a ship. The new player also needs support skills to reach the required range and tracking values, the apporopriate capacitor and tank values to do the content you designed the fit for.

Worse, the new players probably cannot even fit the T2 modules on the ship fit or the ship itself if you do not also abolish all those ‘inconvenient’ skills.

While an EVE online without skills to train might seem nice for a ‘smooth new player experience’, this ignores multiple crucial roles of skills:

Skills are how we invest in characters. No skills means my new day 1 alt is equal to my main, means I can send a totally new cloaky camper to the same people with a new ranfom name every day because we no longer need to invest in characters before they can fly sonething.

Skills are how we measure our progress in EVE and are a large part of what we pay money for. No skills means an Alpha character and an Omega character which differ pretty much only in skill training speed, skills available skill point limits are pretty much the same. No skills means little to no reason to pay for this game as extractors, Omega and skill points all are suddenly irrelevant, which make up the majority of the money that pays for this game.

Skills also serve as a healthy restraint on our progression. Skills ensure that new players first fly and lose some frigates before trying to do the same in a far more expensive battleship or titan. You still see occasionally clueless people in dreadnaughts caught at gates into HS, but the majority of players will have learned a thing or two about capital ships before they can fly one, because skill training takes time.

Skills are good for this game, EVE’s progression, player investment, long term plans and it’s monetization are all built on the existence of skills.

Again, if you want new players to be able to fly the ship fits you design you just have to make some newbie-friendly fits.

My recommendation is to make a new Alpha pilot and use that pilot to design and check the ship fits. Or export their skill levels to Pyfa and design your fits there.

I didnt say remove skills.

Remove skills that modify fitting room. Particularly weapons upgrades so that no new player ever removes a gun because they didn’t have fitting room ever again.

downgrading to t1 because you don’t have t2 skills yet is intuitive. Every one immediately understands.

Downgrading to t1 and still not being able to undock because you are over powergrid is confusing and often difficult to find the solution.

Ok so you dont wanna remove it, so what will those two skills do?

I think they are fine as they help teach," hey i cant use this mod, but i can use this compact one"

I would be happy to see them removed.

I would also be happy to see them do nothing except be a prerequisite.

In both cases their benefit becoming character baseline

ok again, WHAT DO THEY DO??? if you don’t want them to be apart of the fitting equation, what do you suggest weapon and advanced weapon upgrades do??

Okay again, NOTHING. ZERO. ZILCH.

I’m completely happy with them existing only as prerequisites for other skills.

Just remove them entirely.

But what about all of the other fitting skills?

CPU Management, Power Grid Management, Capacitor Management, Electronics Upgrades, Energy Grid Upgrades, Shield Upgrades, Rigging skills… they all affect fitting of your ship one way or another.

Delete them all?

If you’re consistent with your request you would ask that.

But what if the new player can fit the ship but cannot fit the modules you have for the ship fit?

Delete all the prerequisite skills for T2 skills?

Or what if the new player cannot fly the ship?

Delete the prerequisite skills to fly ships?

Where do you draw a line?

Yeah delete then all too. i just used those two as examples. I wasn’t very clear on that.

The line is at skills that improve fitting room.

Skills that unlock new ships and modules are intuitive and fun to train. They are eve. They are fine.

Personally I think skills that improve how much powergrid and CPU I have on my ship are also fun to train, especially after I’ve unlocked T2 modules and need the extra fitting space on my ship to fit those.
