Replacing the CSM with another model?

Once Brisc enters a thread, everything becomes about him. You’ll soon learn to ignore his delusions of reference after the first few times you find yourself the victim of them.

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

Starts crap.

People disagree with his bad views.

Instigates fights/drama queens/plays victim because people call him out on his bad views.

People respond accordingly.

Takes responses out of context.

Plays victim some more.

Mom brings his alter ego a hotpocket.

Claim to be ‘just a line member guy,’ and when all the actual ‘line member guys’ tell him something doesn’t work for them, cite no less than 12 prominent FCs as his appeal to authority as to why he’s just doing what he’s asked.

Goes on long threadnaught about being the victim.

Starts MORE crap.

Continue cycle.

Be elite.

BE BRISC RUBAL. CLAIM TO REPRESENT THE NORMAL PLAYERS IN EVE.

You know the difference between say, a Mike and a Brisc? Mike says what he has to say, and then backs it up with in game action. Mike also doesn’t literally start drama every single day because… what? Severe narcissistic tendencies?

Mike is a fantastic CSM member who actually DOES represent the bottom rungs of the player base ladder, and whether others view what he does as valuable or not, what he does is very valuable in Eve. So many newer bros stick around because of those ‘free gifts’ he regularly gives out that are ‘nothing to him’ because of economy scaling and donations, but are an enormous gift to those newer bros.

Mike is the people’s CSM. More people like Mike, or even Malcanis, would make for great CSMs.

My only comment would be that when it comes to deciding what is best for new players…everyone except the new players get asked. Yet surely it is precisely the new players who are in a best position to say what their perception ( whether right or wrong ) of the game actually is. The misperceptions that I have myself voiced on this forum are those a lot of noobs will have…and most of them don’t post here and get corrected. Corporations should fulfil some of that function, but they vary widely in skill and knowledge themselves. To my knowledge there’s nobody contacting noobs and asking what they think of it all…it is largely the vets speaking ‘on behalf’ of them.

Unfortunately, this is kind of why people don’t ask newbros.

A corporation shouldn’t fulfill anything, not if they don’t want to or don’t have the ability to. As a player, you can choose to start your own corporation today and see if you can survive on the merits of your idea or ability. Every other player is, too. And some of them are just gonna fall on their face because people think they understand things better than they do.

There isn’t a good answer to fix this, either. The NPC school corps tend to be as bad as player corps, only the proportion of people asking questions to those who can provide meaningful answers is even lower. I’ve actually been pondering lately on that, and feel the best answer would be to start EVERY capsuleer in CAS before sending them out to their own ‘school/NPC’ corps, whatever. I don’t have all the details on it, just that CAS is far and away the best of the school corps. For whatever reason, people stay there, hang out there, seem to be more helpful there, etc, and I think… think… that some small part of it is due to CAStabouts and their work.

Lore wise, as much as making a bunch of different schools makes sense, and the idea between spreading the new peeps out amongst a bunch of schools to dilute their questions follows, I don’t think it works in practice. But once you start entering player corporations, well no, they shouldn’t do anything other than whatever it is they want to do as a player corporation.

I never did call you that. You need reading comprehension classes.
Where’s the quote?

Yea I’m sure you share your own views.

Like I said.

They need to elect me to CSM, so they know what actual corruption looks like.

Do we get to guillotine you at the end of your tenure, like Marie Antoinette?

If so, I’m in!

Okay, yes, you are a useful idiot.

As a former CSM member, I will comment here.

The role of the CSM is a key part of the way CCP gets player feedback, but is far from being a roadblock to either players being able to communicate with CCP or for CCP to get non-CSM player views on a wide variety of topics.

CCP routinely and regularly reaches out to players quietly outside of the CSM on a range of issues to get more points of view, especially where specific expertise is needed.

The CSM is used to bounce ideas and concepts that CCP would prefer not to be public and remain confidential.

CCP Devs and Community team and keenly aware of player sentiment and see across the broad array of forums, Discords, streaming shows, and other platforms. they rarely respond, as any response is usually met with a plethora of screeching grarr.

All of that said, CCP does sometimes choose to proceed with their plans, either in complete secrecy (see Pochven) or against CSM recommendation (see Scarcity/capital building) as is their choice. It’s their game, we just live in it.

I disagree that the CSM concerns itself with only “hyperfocused issues”. The range of topics discussed with the CSM was amazingly broad.

I do agree that voting by account instead of by player is counterproductive. While on the CSM I had advocated that CSM voting be by player only, to avoid the distortion seen when player have multiple accounts and can wield a lot of influence. I have 15 accounts (8 paid) and that is a small number compared to some of the multi-boxing & skill farming players who wield hundreds of paid accounts.

Lastly, if you want your point to get heard by CCP, then post it here, or /r/eve, or on a large Discord. CCP is lurking and working to hear these points of view. They might not find them helpful or respond in any way, but they seeing them and acutely aware of player concerns and sentiment.

What they do with that information is a different matter.

I think a major point of contention is that CCP uses the CSM to get feedback, but the players have no way of getting any communication from CCP. CCP is effectively not present on their own forum and any interaction they have with the playerbase is extremely limited and basically on their own terms.

So, players get frustrated at the lack of communication, and try to communicate with the CSM as if they were CCP. Ironically, because of the NDA, the CSM is uniquely unsuitable for this purpose.

Originally, I was going to clean this thread up, but that would nuke more than 3/4 of the replies in the thread. Therefore, I’m going to close it.
