I don’t know if you’ve mentioned what you think that paradigm is elsewhere, but I’m curious as to what you believe Eve to be shifting to. Because it is speculative, I’m not looking to debate on the subject. I’m simply curious what you think, if you care to share.
Yes.
Probably. Wormholes already have their own unique resources to trade. They shouldn’t have all minerals for sure to prevent self-sufficiency, but I also don’t see why they shouldn’t have some valuable ores to mine as well. It is, after all, pretty dangerous space to do that and there should be good stuff in there, just not everything.
Oh totally speculative.
I think the key will be in the looming if/when of Triglavian characters/starter zone. Im thinking that how CCP uses he Alpha/Omega system has been changing to create a bigger “step” of capability between the two, and how this is used within an ecosystem of PLEX sellers and PLEX users.
I dont claim to have to have the concept fleshed, but in terms of movement made by CCP in the last few years, and what other companies they are most definately watching market their products, I see a lot of influence.
In short; several successful games at the moment have two-tier player options, usually ftp and pay/sub/store. Their ecosystems either tend to operate on the principle that the game is addictive enough to keep a large number of free to play players playing, and to keep the paying players also playing. But they seem to realise that you need both in order to have a cycle of turnover within their system.
Alpha and Omega exist, but does the Alpha population serve a purpose other than a trial? I feel CCP believes so and is in the process of reorganising the system so Alphas are not only needed by Omegas in quanity for some game aspect, but that Alphas while able to play an enjoyable game and stay in it, will see reasons to want to upgrade. But, already, there are micro-ways for Alphas to upgrade their experience, rather than pull a full trigger, and just spend $5 here or there.
But the whole dance of “Trigs are easy to farm for Omegas, and fly with Omegas and are the Meta for Structure bashes, which are popular atm” and “EDENCOM ships are pish and you basically cant have them anyway… oh we have sold lots of Trig ships? Ok, then NOW we are buffing them and reducing the cost of aquisition by 90%, please use” by CCP I felt was in line with my thinking on this.
You had a lot of people pegged wrong. But that’s the nature of forum, pegging people whom you’ve never met and will never meet. I find that extremely disturbing.
But it’s nice to see that you reconsider once in a while.
My mom used to say: Only idiots don’t change their mind.
Well Im against forums in general, but if you never met and will never meet, what difference does it make?
I mean, everyone but you on here may not be real.
We ARE in a computer game, after all.
Thank you for going out of your way to kindly fulfill my request.
It makes a difference to the person you peg.
Just because someone seems to just be an avatar on a webpage doesn’t make that person less real at the other end of the fiber optic.
What I just quoted is what a selfish person would think… NOT saying YOU are selfish, but thinking twice before pegging someone and painting him/her as anything you don’t know they are makes for a better world.
A 72yo man got lynched and killed last month by a mob of angry citizens. Why ? Because he had been pegged as a pedophile. His entire family and friends attested he had never touched a child the wrong way.
Pegging people without knowing can be a dangerous thing. Of course, it’s not dangerous for the one doing the pegging.
I know better than that.
Words on a website just don’t write themselves. Someone hat to write them, someone real.
A computer game played by REAL people. It’s PvP, remember?
I dunno man, kinda addicted to pegging at this stage.
Generally first impressions are the ones that have the biggest impact.
But I appreciate your… Kind interest in my conduct, and thanks/np/no worries etc
First impressions are often the wrong ones. Basing an opinion on first impression is lazy and selfish.
A person is much more complicated than first glance can reveal.
Appearances are deceiving.
Not wanting to labour the point, but generally how they react to it says a lot too.
Not attacking you, just discussing.
The way someone reacts involves a lot of factors tied to the different ways our emotions and our reasoning work. The human being is much more complicated than some selfish people want to admit, until those selfish people get pegged by someone just like them, then they scream bloody murder.
Hey not suggesting you are, and yes, discussion is good.
I have my own opinions on the human condition that are out of the scope of this thread, but thank you all the same for this discourse. I shall consider what you have said.
Also pegging is a double-entendre, but I didnt go there because humour is subjective and most people dont get my little jokes.
Understood. o7
Jokes and sarcasm are hard to convey in written form and it’s even harder when the people involved don’t know each other.
Thank you for discussing.
Do take care and enjoy your day.
It’s actually very easy to dominate the market. You just go and put a higher price in order to get the needed minerals. For example: the trit needed for 130 Dreads and 700 BS. This is going to lead to a price battle between big pockets.
For the little guy who doesn’t have the skills this would force him to start training as a miner / reprocessing.
When will this go live?
The current lowest sell order is the practical upward limit to how high a price can go. To dominate the market, one must control the resource at its source so they can govern how it is distributed. Tritanium comes from an area of space that is biased against non-consensual pvp making it very difficult to enforce a claim on all the minerals there.
If you were going to make this claim, it would be easier to substantiate it on the basis of an easier to control area of space. Personally, were I inclined to care at this point, I would expect lowsec minerals to be the most probable bottleneck because they’re the hardest to secure against incursion of one’s enemies.
However, even then, there are module drops as a source of minerals and these are not being touched as far as I’m aware, making mission loot worth more if minerals are scarce, and providing a source of minerals that are not available typically in a particular region. A few ranks in scrap metal processing is not a huge ask. A few hours or days, or sell the modules themselves on the market for their now increased mineral value to people with that skill. More valuable mission loot is a win for the little guy/mission runner.
The entire argument also hinges on the necessity of nullsec powers being constantly engaged in expensive wars so that minerals never have a chance to normalize in price. Rich folks are rich because they have learned how to save money. Spending it is not high on their agenda. Indeed, becuase the resource is one that lies outside of their domain, they have a vested interest in keeping the price low and will make plans accordingly.
To paraphrase an exchange from Star Trek:
A: “It all comes down to the 3rd rule of acquisition. Never pay more for an acquisition than you have to. You want to acquire tritanium. Tritanium is good, but how much are you willing to pay for it?”
B: “Whatever it costs.”
A: “That’s the kind of irresponsible spending that causes so many business ventures to fail. You’re forgetting the 3rd rule.”
The initial price is there, if that will not be changed in order to accommodate the new upward trend in prices. That will change as the request of minerals begins to be much higher because of the lack of the resource in NS/LS/WH.
Don’t forget the suicide gankers. That’s non-consensual pvp. If I get ganked 2-3 times in the same system I will not in that system anymore because it’s not worth it. If the security of the miners would be increased against non-consensual pvp, then it would be ok.
Just think of CODE. and other alliances like that.
Actually, that’s my second point. The reprocessing value of ores producing Mexallon is diminished by 75%. That means that only 25% of the current production of Mexallon will be available in HS.
A lot of times those modules are worth more than the minerals because those modules can’t be produced.
Spending is not, arming it is. And arming / replacing means spending.
I love the paraphrase from Star Trek
Yet, we are far far away… The Ferengi also use the market strategy to buy all cheap and sell all more expensive.
Null entities don’t have to spend their money to acquire resources in highsec. They could just as easily mobilize a labor force to extract the minerals directly. The cost of tritanium will determine which option is deemed the more favorable. The powers that be will not pay a higher price for tritanium than they have to.
I did not forget ganking. Ganking is a profession that exists because of highsec’s bias against non-consensual pvp by destroying any ship that makes an attempt at shooting a target not at war. Increases in mineral prices increase the cost of ganking by increasing the production cost of ships used to gank and balance out the security concerns in my opinion back to the status quo we currently have.
In any case, the only point I care to make is that I do not personally believe a genuine new player is going to be harmed by these changes. If the value of highsec minerals increases, the value of their labor increases, either mining or mission loot. Some modules may be worth more intact, but I have hundreds of modules in a junk pile that are worth more melted and these will only appreciate in value if minerals do.
At this point, I think all I can do is reiterate things I’ve already said, so if you still believe this is going to negatively affect new players, that’s fine. We can agree to disagree. If you want the last word, by all means reply once more if you like and I won’t bother to refute it.
Orca?
True… Orca can do everything… Mining / Salvaging / Mission Running / Hauling / EWar / Small or Large DPS / Logi / Tackling / Ratting / Exploration… Actually Orca can do also popcorn… It’s the Chuck Norris of EvE ships…
