At EVE Vegas, we showed you the most recent iteration of our vision to provide an engaging and unique FPS experience to enrich the EVE Universe. Our goal for this was always to reinforce the ‘One War // One Universe’ gameplay and create a worthy spiritual successor to DUST 514 that has the potential to captivate not only existing Mercenaries and Capsuleers, but also to attract new adventurers into the ever-evolving world of New Eden.
Over the course of Project Nova’s development, we conducted a number of player research sessions with external partners, tirelessly playtested the game internally and brought community stalwarts in to help us evaluate the project. Now, after taking all this research and feedback into account, we see that the gameplay experience in its current form does not live up to our original vision and would not achieve our ambitious goals for this project. As a result, we will not be moving forward with the upcoming invite-only Alpha until further notice.
Well this is a shocking and surprising turn of events… said nobody ever
Good move, didn’t expect CCP to make this tough but right decision. The piece we saw was not what is needed to be successful. Hope they find the right track to proceed.
We are aware that many of you have been eagerly anticipating the moment when you can get your hands on Project Nova. Please accept our heartfelt apologies for the disappointment this will no doubt cause. We hope you understand that we need to take a step back and return to the drawing board, where we will spend more time figuring out how all this hard work can translate into something better and more meaningful for the EVE Universe. Remaining true to our vision of Project Nova’s future in connection with EVE is essential. That is the only way we will be able to continue creating memorable experiences that ensure you - our ineffable players – are satisfied and make us proud as developers.
Project Nova continues to evolve and we remain committed to delivering a high-quality team-based shooter experience to EVE Online fans, while exploring new and exciting opportunities to integrate the two games. CCP is in no rush to release Project Nova until we’re satisfied it provides a rock-solid gameplay experience and visuals to match.
taking crap out of context… they are not ending nova, they are not rushing it and going back and fixing it.
Considering they are telling they need a better game than they took years to develop and a Caracas of one whole game before… I am gonna go and say 3rd time a charm.
Prepare for launcher updates as big expansions anauncements in eve for years to come.
The speculation now is after Vegas Fanfest feedback, CCP wants to reinforce an Eve link sooner rather than later. Many players and the general games media that got their hands on the game said ‘it played fine, yet what sets it apart from all the other FPS on the market?’
Its not out of context, they are pretty much ending it, they want to try and find a meaningful way to have the two linked, but they already tried that, so try reading between the lines instead of just reading the pre-prepared PR statement designed to make pearl abyss think that they aren’t completely wasting money without having anything to show for it, they will basically have to redesign the entire game from scratch for the 3rd time, and considering how long it took them to get Nova to a partially functional state, just over 2 1/2 years between its initial announcement and this “announcement”
Assuming they wait another year before showing off the next direction its still going to be a couple of years before we can even hope to have a beta in our hands and then another year or so before they realise that their new attempt to link the two games has failed followed by a year or so of support before they then announce another cancelled project
At CCP, one of our core principles is that we work to provide our players with excellent experiences. This mindset can be found within every creative team
CCP is in no rush to release Project Nova until we’re satisfied it provides a rock-solid gameplay experience and visuals to match.
You are reading into it, more than taking it out of context. Either way you are assuming a lot with VERY little factual information from CCP.
Fact is they are pushing back Alpha.
Fact is they are not happy with the current state of Nova.
Those are the TWO facts you can take from that WHOLE statement.
Nowhere does it state that they are ending it, shutting it down or moving on to another project.
Sorry but CCP is pretty good at letting you know when they are going to end development on something… hell they have a track record of failed games longer than the ONE successful game they have.
Dust514
World of Darkness Online
are two that come to mind without much thought. And both of those they made VERY clear announcements that they were pulling the plug on them.
Trying to please too many people, if they would just ■■■■ or get off the pot with their current product they would be just fine but it is stuck in some netherworld between PvE and PvP goals.
I’m assuming a lot based on 14 years of interactions with CCP, at this point the CCP translation table is pretty fleshed out
By pushed back you actually mean cancelled, and yes they state they are not happy with the current state of nova, meaning the gameplay, which at this stage is the entire of the game, a PvE horde mode doesn’t really link in to the EVE universe at all, meaning they would have to create a new way for the two games to interact, now we already know that faction warfare integration is a bust, the only areas really left are PI or sov based, any interaction would have to be balanced that even if one side were entirely unable to field a group of bunnies that they would not automatically lose whatever battle they were involved in, meaning bunnies would have limited ways to directly affect players, so we can probably rule out any major mechanics, meaning at most you’re probably going to be able to do things like attacking station services or damaging/stealing PI infrastructure/materials
Boarding player ships is something people would scream for without actually thinking about it because you’re not going to be able to have a situation where the pilot of a ship is entirely unable to do anything about players infesting his hull because as above there isn’t going to be a scenario where a lack of players would negate a players ability to play, at best you’re probably going to be able to affect very minor things like station services or be able to disable weapons for x time on a citadel or maybe be able to provide a small boost to a weapons refire timer by doing the legwork as bunnies
So yes while we do not have an admission of failure directly we do have a pretty good indication that CCP has realised they probably overpromised with dust and people want them to deliver on those promises
Yeah but were those projects that were cancelled after just having been purchased by another company? if they were to get purchased and them immediately announce the termination of yet another project what do you think that would do to their ability to continue to develop EVE in a way they wanted to? its a PR message sent to make things not seem as bad as they actually are
Why people are surprised? Take a peek at 20 minutes gameplay. This game would flop. Now take a look at prophecy trailer from few fanfest ago (like commandos in space). CCP will never release good game again. They have no developers with imagination. It’s like with abyss, somehow nice idea being milked over and over again, abyss fleets, abyss arena etc. BUT it was one idea in a very long time.
Shooter in EvE unniverse? With CCP? It’s like: “how bad we can develope it?”
You know what assume means right? You are putting a lot of conjecture in there with very little actual proof. Your argument that the previous projects… well that could be put in reverse against you. When in CCPs history have then been purchased by another company and been told to put a project back into the works to improve the quality before possible release or even early alpha testing? Never… not in all of CCPs history had the been owned by another game company. So this is a first for them under the new regime. But that is also an assumption.
Fact is they have not announced anything other than its delay.
You are just trying to start some negative crap because you have nothing better to do with your life than feed on negativity.
