Rookie Chat or what?

At this point - nah.

They do add players to EvE.
Many Alphas spend money intermittently.
Many will convert to Omega.

„People being problematic“ is taking away the wrong point from my post discussing Rookie Chat.

You’re welcome to continue discussing something I don’t care about though, and calling it „avoidance“. :person_shrugging:

Uhhh, your main paragraph in that post is about people doing things in a way that is questionable? Or was that just a prelude to “lol join corp”?

Rookie chat specifically is set up to be a dynamic that — at best — give satisfactory answers to questions from newbies, but suffers from problematic people that suffer poor social judgement and think „it depends“ is unironically a useful answer to those questions, or the repeated same answer but from them is the correct answer, or a grandstanding diatribe into something unasked is the correct answer, all of which diminishes the value of Rookie chat. Specifically that chat.

Im not making some grandiose Reddit level philosophical treatise about „people always suck“ and therefore some nihilistic conclusion about „everything involving people sucks so why bother singling out Rookie Chat“.

The point is that Rookie Chat specifically sucks based on the premise and goals of the chat, earned on its own merit by its inhabitants and it’s inability for effective advice-givers to police out and remove the ineffective ones.

Yes corporations can suck too — hence why I specifically mentioned 2 of them — and so yes it’s a die roll. I also outlined how in an upper limit good corporations could provide more for newbies. Fleets, etc. Those are worth seeking out.

There was even a fairly recent post here on these forums from a newbie talking about how hard it was to find someone to help him kill Dagan (or whatever his name is at end of SOE epic arc). He got advice from Rookie chat on ship fits. No one from Rookie chat volunteered to help him. Neither did his NPC corp nor local. A newbie friendly corporation would have been a better chance. Not guaranteed. What was guaranteed (because it actually happened) is that no one from Rookie Chat volunteered to help him. Because no one views that channel as a „fleet up“ opportunity. Corporations begin to lower those social barriers.

I agree to that… mostly. My point is that your solution “join corp” will realistically not really be any different because while it might not have the same people necessarily, it will probably have similar people because… people are people. Also, they will probably push that player into a direction THEY want them to go in instead of actually giving a newbie choices… this being a sandbox and all.

Going “just join a good one” is akin to “just git gud”, it’s impossible for a newbie (or anyone really) to FIND a good one using the normal methods so that’s a no-go and please don’t come with E-UNI, they’re not on the same level as they used to be.

First of all it’s almost always the opposite although personally I’d rather teach someone how to fish instead of just giving him one. Depending on what he’s flying (so if it’s even feasible or not) I’ll either give them a better fit for their ship that they can actually use (mostly when they’re flying a destroyer or a crap fit cruiser), this requires actually asking for specifics and generally in a convo.

If they fly something that will simply not do it and they lacks the skills to fly something that would (if they could I’ll just give them some isk and a fit) then I’ll help out as I’m generally close by.

One anecdotal “I didn’t get help” could mean anything:

  • he actually didn’t get help
  • he couldn’t be bothered to actually listen to what is said
  • he got bad help
  • he’s lazy and wants everything delivered on a platter
  • it’s a troll alt creating a new thread

“Someone posted” is fairly meaningless in this regard, it’s almost as if it depends on the situation

More players are leaving than joining. This has been the case for the last 10 years. Yet the important people still seem to keep their job.

Most of your posts are terrible yet you’re still here posting.

Why are they terrible?

Noooo ! Some have to be more equal than others. Preferably me.

You already posted that bogus graph line before…got told is was a load of hooey…and now you are back posting it again. Thankfully the word ‘troll’ was invented for just such situations.

I agree. Make everyone pay to play again like it used to be.

@Wesfahrn have you thought about simply going to play Runescape? You talk about it all the time.

Good idea

!remind me 18 months

according to your top graph, in 2030 there will be 8k players, is that correct?

They probably barely making ends meet with current amount of players and with the graph looking like this there wont be the proper investment to make things better. So by 2030 there will be 0 players most likely. But let see.
