Rovan Dryftar — A Name Misfiled Among the Stars

I have never been particularly good at introductions.

My name is Rovan Dryftar. I am Vherokior, of the Minmatar Republic. My family were never important people. We traveled. We salvaged. We traded.

The Dryftar clan survived by finding value in what others abandoned.

Old machinery. Broken equipment. Forgotten stations. Wrecks that someone else had already decided were worthless. We learned how to repair what we could, sell what we could not use, and keep moving when there was nothing left for us in one place.

Some people call that scavenging, but my family called it survival.

I was never meant to become a capsuleer.

The Republic’s capsuleer program is not a place someone like me normally ends up. I was not a military prodigy. I was not a corporate investment. I did not come from a wealthy family with connections waiting to open doors.

As far as I understand it, my opportunity came from a mistake.

A name entered incorrectly. A record attached to the wrong person. A distant relative with a similar enough name that the system did not notice until I was already being tested.

By the time anyone realized the mistake, I had already passed enough evaluations that someone decided it was easier to continue than to start over.

I do not know if that was luck or a failure of bureaucracy.

Perhaps it was both.

I was given a chance that should have belonged to someone else. I have spent my life making sure I do not waste opportunities.

I was never trained to be exceptional. Everything I know about ships, space, and survival came the same way my family learned everything: through mistakes, experience, and trying again when failure would have been easier.

The academy taught me enough to survive.

The rest I learned afterward.

New Eden has been less forgiving than any instructor I ever had.

I am not the most skilled pilot. I am not the most dangerous person in space. There are capsuleers who can fly circles around me, who have more ISK than I will ever see, and who have names that carry weight throughout the cluster.

I have none of those things.

What I do have is experience finding things that other people overlook.

That is why I explore.

Some capsuleers search for glory. Some search for power. Some search for conquest.

I search for what has been forgotten.

A relic site. A lost structure. A piece of technology left behind by someone who came before us. Anything that might teach me something, or perhaps keep my ship flying for another day.

Every system has a story.

Every abandoned site belonged to someone.

Every piece of recovered technology was once important to someone.

Maybe I am still looking for my own place among the stars. Maybe I am just another scavenger with a better ship and a longer reach.

Either way, I will keep looking.

The universe is large.

There are still things out there that nobody has found yet.

And until I find something better to do, I intend to be the person looking.
