Rules and Resources of the Intergalactic Summit

Greetings Capsuleer!

Welcome to the Intergalactic Summit. The Summit is a unique section of the EVE Online forums. It is a place for Role players and in character posting. This post is designed to give a brief over view of the rules of the forums and some of the “Do’s and Dont’s” to help you in your journey within the role playing community of EVE Online.

RULES

  1. All posts within the Intergalactic Summit (IGS) are what is called In Character(IC). You are speaking as YOUR character within the EVE Universe. This means any Out of Game references like mentioning CCP, Game mechanics or other topics that only you as a person not as a character within a game would know.

  2. Out of Character content ( Or OOC ) Is not authorized within the IGS. This includes responding to OOC content.

  3. Follow the rules of the EVE Online forums which can be found here. EVE Online, including the forums are rated for PEGI-13

When it comes to avoiding the mistakes that could be seen as OOC posting, here are some suggestions on what you should NOT say within the IGS. The points below do not cover all of the content that should not be used. A general rule of thumb is to speak as if you are your character within the game. Not as a person behind the keyboard playing the game.

  1. Using terminology like “CCP”, “patches”, “servers”, “balancing of NPCs” or other game development issues that characters who do not know they are in a game would know nothing about
  2. Talking about “players” and “NPCs” instead of “independent capsuleers” and “the navy”, or similar
  3. Any mention of the EVE Universe as a game or program.

What to do when you come across a suspected OOC post within the IGS.

Do NOT respond to it. Talking OOC In response to another person OOC’s content will only spawn more and it has the ability to completely derail posts. Flag the post under “Something Else” and write in the reason as to why you believe it to be containing OOC content. You are encouraged to respond to the message as IC or even contact them in game or send a PM.

As a final note all moderation action within the IGS will be done In Character with Commander Alexandre Arthie of CONCORD. This character has the same voice and authority as ISD Moderators of the EVE Online Forums. That character will post in this thread so you will be able to see what he looks like.

Above all, enjoy your stay within the IGS. It is okay to make mistakes as you will be gently corrected. The EVE Universe and Lore is a incredibly complex beast that is always changing so mistakes are expected. All that is expected from you is to learn and create content that you and others will enjoy.

Good luck, Capsuleer!

To emphasize the point:

Furthermore, the used of double brackets — the (( ooc remarks )) device – is NOT PERMITTED on the IGS forum. No explicit or clearly OOC posting is permitted.

This forum has tools to let you reply to a post in other forum sections. If you wish to reply in an OOC way to a post, use them, or as above, use a PM or evemail.

DO NOT post explicitly OOC material on IGS and do not think the (( )) device is allowed.

To be clear, if you use the (( )) device, or any other way of indicating an OOC remark, the entire post in question will be at risk of summary deletion and flagging for OOC will very likely result in either deletion or post being hidden.

There is one exception to this rule for IC events organization only, as detailed in a followup post below.

Fighting wars of “is it OOC/IC?” on IGS is unacceptable behavior. The actual parameters of RP etiquette is a matter for players. The parameters of posting on IGS however is properly a matter for us.

If people post something on IGS then the rule of thumb is to apply a principle of charity along the lines of “can it reasonably be interpreted as IC giving benefit of doubt to the poster’s intention?”

Playing games around this and attempting rules-lawyering tactics are a waste of valuable time. We do not care who you are or who your enemies are. We do not care about length of time playing the game or role-playing.

Please do not post OOC material. Do not try and game the rules of what is IC or OOC. Please do not try and to catch one another out and use flagging and moderation as a weapon in your otherwise valid RP.

As for not-so-subtle attempts to use veiled “IC” language for OOC talking points: please do not do this. If you think someone is doing it: please ignore it and don’t respond to it OOC. If it is clearly OOC and I mean clearly then flag it by all means.

If you do not like what is posted IC and it is reasonably IC (applying principle of charity) then simply ignore it or if you must respond keep it IC.

I hope you will help us to maintain the benefits of a resource like an in-character RP forum on these EVE forums.

Thank you,

CCP Delegate Zero

IC Events Organization on IGS

Organization of IC events for RP purposes on IGS is always welcome.

Posts organizing these events should be IC throughout as with any other post on IGS, with the following exception to the general rule against OOC posting on IGS:

IC/RP events announcement and organizing posts may have a short supplementary section that contains OOC details essential to the organization of the event that cannot be conveyed in IC terms.

IGS users should refrain from flagging the first post of an IC event announcement thread for OOC if it has such a section.

This is a privilege extended only to the event organizer in the original post of the thread. There are to be no OOC replies in whole or part on IGS.

If people have questions about the event that are OOC they should use the details provided by the organizer, or contact the organizer by PM/evemail/etc. If it’s necessary to have a lengthy OOC discussion of the event on these forums it should be done through a linked thread on an OOC section. In most cases this would be In Game Events - EVE Online Forums but organizers can decide where would be best suited to their own event - for example, a writing competition OOC thread might be better on the Player Fiction section.
