Save our monitors

Hi support team,

Could you do an auto spin in space or inside a station or something else, when we are away.
(exemple: like because of an IRL happen)

Have a good day

You’re going AFK in space?

How is the game supposed to know you aren’t there? Just turn off your monitor. Takes all of 2 seconds…

Close lid,
Power and sleep, turn off after…

After AFK mining, AFK hauling we also get AFK ship spinning now?

But in all seriousness, why not just exit the game?

Easy: Automatically close any client that hasn’t actively interacted with the server (aka user input) for 10 minutes.

No more afk scouts, miners, intelbots, cloakers… the stream of tears would be unimaginable.

I think CCP should only do that if they also enforce it, which means better monitoring and banning of anyone who starts using a mouse jiggler or similar to keep the client active.

If they do not want to put in that extra effort that change shouldn’t be made, as such a change would only affect honest players and not cheaters.

auto self destruct for a ship that isn’t active in space for 10 minutes

you mean “honest AFK players” that should have no issue with their clients being closed, because they can log in again in like 30 seconds once they have returned form their nap, dogwalk, meal or netflix doku.

Longtime AFK gameplay is often used to abuse one or multiple aspects of the game.
Either being an “intel bot” by just surveying a gate and some thirdparty-software reads out the traffic, or the video is even streamed as live-intel. Or stored in a videofile to check the overnight traffic. Yes people do that, we have surveyed WHs during evictions this way to see how many and who came in or left through a known connection.
Then you have the longtime cloakers that only want to tire-out the camped peoples attention to suddenly assault them with superior forces through a covertcyno, knowing all countermeasures will either not work well or be more costly than their cloaky ship, so they “win” by default just from staying logged in for hours and being a headache.
Then you have afk miners, using a setup explicitly made so it takes hours to fill an orca’s cargo with drones.
Then you have the passive scouts, just being minimized and looked at once they register a WH jump or gatefire.

Tbh, none of these scenarios deserve mercy. All are okay if the player is actively managing the ship. But I couldn’t care less if none of that would be possible any more for hours in a row without actually using the client for scanning, warping around or whatever. If people would be forced to play more actively on all clients they have open, it would be helpful for the game at all. The game should be comepletely designed in a way, that you would literally want to log out for your own safety if you need to ignore the client for longer than a couple of minutes.

If an honest player cannot stay in system AFK and a cheating person can, this is an advantage for the cheating person.

I therefore don’t think the game should make this distinction unless it also enforces the rule by banning players for this, which we both know CCP most likely won’t spend time on as they already have other (more important) cheaters to find.

In other words, I don’t think this would be a good change.

I’ll never understand players who play the game in order to NOT play the game…

ach come on. This is such an obvious logical fallacy, “cheaters” are breaking the rules by definition and that means it’s CCPs obligation to find and ban them of course. It is beyond our knowledge or influence “how hard” they do that. And it’s absolutely clear they can never catch them all, that would be no reason to “allow” something “because some cheaters can do it”.

I mean, it wasn’t even a serious suggestion, I just like to argue for the idea knowing so many people would cry bitter tears about their afk-gameplay being nerfed. It’s just salt farming, we both know such a change would never come and not even be considered by CCP. They want thousands of AFK players in the game, because that boosts the player numbers, they pay money if they are Omega Alts (which they need to be to be logged in simultaneously) and they don’t eat up much server resources.

I support this, if it also applies in dry dock.
