The signal disappears from the window probe scanner in the process of scanning.
In this case, WH is being searched for.
I am the only one in the system. The locale is empty.
What could be the cause of this?
The wormhole was end of lifetime and just disappeared as you were probing. That happens quite often.
Is this the only reason?
There were 2 WH signals in the system. Both signals disappeared at a certain percentage.
In the probe scanner window, the filter was set to WH only.
It happens with wormholes. Have had more than one disappear right after scanning or was scanning one down. About to warp to it and suddenly gone.
SHRUGS
Wormholes the more unstable one is the shorter lifespan it seems to have. Especially if it opens to a wormhole where someone is living. Those get rolled quickly. That is send a smaller mass ship through and then a heavier mass back in…
This can explain it better than my poor understanding explanation could do…
Okay. Thank you.
Then a question about relic and data.
The same thing. If the same thing happens when scanning relic and data.
The signal suddenly disappears from the probe scanner window at a certain percentage.
I am alone in the system.
What could be the cause?
Same thing: the relic or data site disappeared.
Another explorer probably was there before you, hacked a few of the cans, left a few low value cans intact, then you arrived in that system and eventually the site just disappears.
Thank you.
Let’s hope it’s true.
Otherwise I was already starting to think that all this was a deception of the otherworldly.
Or weak scanning power.
Although the skills are pumped up to 4.
@Tyner There is another possibility, if I understand your situation correctly.
You state:
It’s been a long time since I taught a brand new player, so I may be misinterpreting your statement; but, I believe, it’s possible what you may be referring to is in fact…what I’ll call a “signal loss”. As you scan down signals, especially when you are first learning, it is possible to position the probes so “tightly”…the area the probes are scanning is not…the area the signal, relic or data site, is in. You’ve simply made the scanning area “too small” for lack of a better description. Repositioning the probes to cover a larger area will generally, in these cases, reacquire the data or relic site signal.
When scanning you’re shrinking the scanning area, continually, until you acquire the lock. If the probes are “mispositioned” you can be scanning an area immediately adjacent to the data or relic site, without realizing it, early on in the scanning process. As your experience and skill and equipment better over time, you’ll learn how to avoid this.
But, considering you are a new player, this is a possibility.
Welcome to EVE.
Unfortunately, not in this case.
Repeatedly increasing the scan radius to 32 AU does not return the lost signal to the probe window.
That is, the signal disappears forever.
Then it is just gone, as the earlier poster’s mentioned. While, it is not a data or relic site, this mechanic also affects escalations. I once waited “too long” to complete an escalation, and the whole thing, well what was remaining of it, vanished while I was in the last room, trying to complete it.
Relic, data, and escalations are all on timers.
It is, what it is…
While Escalations do have an expiry time however it does not despawn if there is a player within the site, only when the site is completely empty does it vanish after a few min. Granted any reference to the location is deleted when it has expired, thus if you have not saved a BM of the location(s) you will not be able to return to it.
Not true.
I can confirm that an escalation will expire even with a player inside once the time is up. I tried my first escalation last week and it despawned while I was fighting in one of the later rooms as the 24h timer passed.
One moment I was fighting, the next all ships and objects around me disappeared leaving only wrecks.
That seems odd to me. It has be quite a while since last I did an escalation at the end of it’s “life”. Could be a bug or intentional, who knows.
Disappointing disappearances: Loot only lasts 2 hours. Seeing a juicy field of dropped containers of a wormhole cita is great - seeing them vanish one by one after 2 hours can be heartbreaking.
And if you like to jettison your mined ore in a cozy belt, make sure to keep these 2 hours in mind.
For those that are new… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51K2U3Rm9uY This helped me a bit when I was starting out.
His other videos are really good as well. Though I think he is not making as many videos any more. Mostly due to RL things. Still his videos are worth checking out.
But, yeah, losing signal happens to everyone.
