Is this somehow related to the wardec?

I, Nauplius, Doctor of the Faith for the Amarrian Orthodox Church, Sedevacantist, hereby announce my candidacy for the hand of Loai Qerl. I do not currently hold a Lordship; however, after the coming of the True Emperor and the wholesale slaughter of the current degenerate, liberal nobility, I expect to be given quite high noble titles, perhaps even an Heirship. Horses, yaks, slaves, and other traditional Khanid wedding gifts will be supplied.

This is a high dowry for someone who is not pure Amarr!

However, this announcement has an auspicious timing. So, apologies Nauplius, for poaching on your preserve, but I am looking for a suitable partner for my nephew Tiberius Munory. It is about time he settles down. Also, I do have a lot of business in the Kingdom and an allegiance with a Khanid house can be useful.

I can also offer livestock as a wedding gift, as I believe that to be the custom among the Khanid? I cannot offer yak of the quality that mr. Nauplius can, but I propose to ship slaves in stead.

I would like to meet the Holder of house Qerl to discuss in more detail whether the match is mutually beneficial; please send me a message via the neocom.

Ah-- to clear up any misunderstanding I think Ms. Qerl is not herself of noble rank (yet) and this may be part of the reason for the size of the dowry?

I also have no reason to think she’s an abolitionist. She’s definitely not a “bleeding heart” except where very small slaver hounds are concerned.

Eligible for What ?

Thank you Aria for clearing that up. This may change matters. Of course in the Khanid kingdom the Nouveau Riche can buy privileges and titles, but that is not the same as a blue bloodline that goes back millennia. That being said, I am still open to explore the possibility of accepting ms. Qerl into my House.

Also, I have had a word in private with Tiberius and all misunderstandings are properly sorted out. He is sorry for his inconsiderate remarks earlier in this thread. Tiberius would be absolutely delighted marry miss Loai, should we conclude the match is suitable.

Floofy, could you quickly confirm this to ms. Loai’s chaperon?

Mr. Phonaga, I confirm that I would be absolutely delighted to marry miss Loai if the match is deemed suitable.

Dear Synthia, marriage customs are different for each of the core powers.

The word “eligible” probably comes from marriage customs in the Federation. There they hold elections to choose amongst candidate brides, I think I’ve seen some galnet shows about that.

We do things differently in the Empire, and among noble houses we have a civilized discussion to see if there is a good match.

The Caldari are all about efficiency, also in producing offspring, so algorithms decide how much, where and which sort of test tube babies are needed.

As for the Minmatar rebels, I imagine that one clan invades another clan to steal their women, screaming war cries of “We come for our brides”.

You have An Imagination.
I have several Minmatar acquaintances and have not received the Impression that such Activities Occur.
If Anything, it would Appear that Marriages involve a great Deal of Discussion and Argumentation regarding Clan Assets and other topics, between the more senior members of the clans involved, particularly if one or more of the intended couple(or other arrangement) is on a line of Succession to a Family or Clan leadership Role.

Graphs, Charts, and Diagrams may be involved.

Marriage. The hint is in the “bachelorette,” which specifies marital status and is unimportant if the eligibility is for something else.

If I understand correctly it usually denotes someone with multiple desirable traits as a spouse-- wealthy, good-looking, charming, and/or socially well-positioned, in varying combinations. It’s usable for whatever gender, so for example a wealthy, charming, handsome man might be talked about as a particularly “eligible bachelor.”

Ah-- very respectfully, my lady, I think it’s a lot more free-form than that as a rule. Typically they follow their hearts; it’s not very businesslike (or democratic). It’s a private matter, just, one they’re not always very private about.

While Caldari marriages are typically arranged, this isn’t … really “how,” my lady. Typically they’re set up by corporate functionaries. They’re not limited by bloodline in a direct way, but similarity of appearance is given strong priority, maintaining distinct lines between Civire and Deteis and even perhaps tending to blend other backgrounds into the existing Caldari lineages as well if they can’t be paired with others of their own.

Tube children there might be algorithms about but usually Caldari balance pragmatic technocracy with traditionalism and respect for their own, so mostly it’s managed by various corporate and community leaders based on resources and mid- to long-term need for more workers, soldiers, and so on. The technology was invented in the first place to bring the Caldari population up to the point where they wouldn’t be overwhelmingly outnumbered by the Gallente Federation. Any algorithms would be about tracking population trends and suggesting policy solutions, of which the tubes and creches are one.

That is not how it is ■■■■■■■ done. ■■■■ you.

Tell me about it. (Which, just in case, is a colloquial way to say “you are correct”, not an invitation to tell me more about it.)

Interestingly enough, negotiations might in some cases open with an invitation eerily similar to the one that started this thread, posted to eligible clans / circles of the party seeking to marry.

Were I to take this Literally it would be doubly Comedic (to Other People), since Everything I Know about Minmatar marriage customs comes from Your posts on the IGS and from discussions in The Summit.

I should then maybe clarify that my perspective is that of an established urban homeworld Sebiestor, part of a collective of allied clans from the coast of Mikramurka. It is necessarily not representative for other circumstances.

And now we are off-topic, so I will bow out; good luck to Qerl in her search and may the lucky prospect be a genuine supporter of a lasting peace.

Upon consultation with our wise Friar and Corp matchmakers, we are pleased to announce that Heretics do not qualify, and need not apply for the position and dowry.

Additionally we are expanding consideration to resourceful Non Titled people possessing the qualities of ambition, charm, and persistence.

Attached is an artist’s rendering of Ms. Qerl, for those that have not had the pleasure of meeting her in person.
