Is there any way to get the Repair Drones to repair the own ship? It would make sense, wouldnt it? But unfortunately you can not target yourself to give them the command to repair the own ship…
Did I miss something here?

No. You can’t heal yourself, or shoot yourself. You can bring 2 ships and repair each other but, in a PVE context, you’ll generally be better off using combat drones to reduce the incoming DPS faster.

OK, thx. Nevertheless, it still doesnt make sense that one is not able to repair the own ship with drones after a battle. Ofc drones are better to attack during a fight, but when you have a complete buffer tanked ship… lets say an Orca, why isnt it able to repair all damage with drones? That is a technical disadvantage in the EVE universe that makes no sense.
Yes ofc, its faster to dock into a station and pay for the repair… but still, the logic here does not make sense…
… and its not like it would be an overpowered feature, because Drones dont heal that much damage anyway.
I think, Idling Repair-Drones should automatically repair any damage on the own ship w/o a command for it. THAT makes sense.

You don’t need to dock at a station - Tether at any public Upwell structure and repair free of charge - takes about 30 seconds.
An Orca will usually be shield tanked these days and the shields will regenerate. I tossed together a basic T2 fit for solo mining in Pyfa. My pilot gets 283K EHP with 150 EHP/s passive regen.
Note that while you can’t repair yourself, you can boost yourself with command bursts.

Thx for the Info, but I know that already. Ofc there are options to regen shields and repair armor otherwise than drones, nevertheless, drones self repair of the mothership should be one of it.
Your basic T2 fit might be a good option for solo mining, but I prefer my own 1.3m (eHp) buffer tank fit, that is not only capable of soloing Trigs, it can also survive a 100+ (one hundred) man catalyst gank in highsec (not in lowsec, ofc, where no CONCORD help is available).
BUT this fit needs external regeneration, unless I wanna wait a lot of time before the shield regens - thats the disadvantage of not having shieldbooster… therefore, Drones and the ability to repair the own ship would be nice, but as you pointed out, not necessary - but still nice to have and a logical extension of repair drones

Understood - but the incentive would be for self-reliance and (I believe) CCP is trying to encourage interdependence. A fit that can tank a million EHP in highsec should have some drawbacks - otherwise it would be the universal choice, forcing CCP to nerf it. Given the Citadel proliferation in HS, the need to tether to regen doesn’t seem that unreasonable!
