I am thinking something like a medium slot module, heavy powergrid and moderate CPU, which would repair docked drones would be nice. The way I imagine it would work would be similar to the way that tethering at a station works: simultaneous repair of hull, armor, and shields, with a slow repair over time. It would have similar skills to remote armor repairers. This would make saving drones more worthwile, but still have drawbacks when it comes to fitting.
What is your take on this? Would you want to fit this to your drone boat?
Probably not. Mainly because every med- and lowslot is incredibly valuable on a Droneboat and sacrificing that slot just to repair damaged drones slowly over time would probably not be worth the weakening of the fit itself.
In a PvP fight it wouldn’t help you much, because the fight is decided long before the module would have any effect on the outcome and you would probably lose to the other ship if you basically miss one medslot. In PvE you can protect your drones easily or just replace them, as they count as ammo. Or go dock and repair them every now and then.
This is how I do it when I’m really remote in my Stratios. Data/Relic modules, Tractor Beams, Medium Pulse Laser II’s, up to dual scrams and neuts and nos you just never know what kind of rats could appear.
I really do like the idea of using repair paste to fix drones. I’d probably make it a high slot item that works like one of those paste-using remote armor reppers, except it boosts the repair speed of drones in your bay. This does away with the “mid vs low” argument. This doesn’t seem like a super hard thing to implement, either.
This has already been suggested - as a mid slot. Making it a high slot doesn’t really hold any more appeal (at least for me). You already have high slot remote reps…
Something that could work would be a passive drone unit that sits in the drone bay (taking up 50m3 of drone space and requiring 50mbit of bandwidth), passively repairing drones. No idea how this would work from a programming aspect (or even if it could), so chances are it’s probably a no-go from the outset.
