I still remember buying my first Cruiser as a new-ish player of only a few weeks. 10m ISK for an Arbitrator.
Given that we are generally here talking and helping new players with approaches to problems - we should remember that while to us 500m ISK is peanuts, it’s a silly number to a new player (unless we want to encourage Credit Card warriors).
Yeah, you could probably do the SoE arc in an Interceptor if you wanted speed. But that’s a lot of skill training and a good lump of ISK for a new player that they’d probably not want to bury into such a specialised hull.
Last time I ran the SoE arc I did it in a Tactical Destroyer - that’s a little too easy.
I mean do whatever you want, but I was told this arc can be done in a destroyer and there was three ideas I had in mind. I was asking if all three ideas were viable. If you have a preferred ship that isn’t one of those, good for you, but it’s not going to help me much… unless you’re feeling generous this week.
MWD Assault Frigate and just keep moving. Can easily get the DPS needed with whatever weapon system you choose. I personally use a light missile hawk and orbit at 30k around Dagon and he cannot hit me while I am doing 2k+ m/s around him. Makes for easy travel/short work of the whole story arc.
Correct.
But mind you, except for 2 or 3 missions, your destroyer will not perform any better than a nimble frigate . And in those few missions tank and firepower may be important enough to justify bringing something bigger than a destroyer if you have the skill and ISKies.
And that is why I wouldn’t be surprised if someone propose to bring a Marauder to kill Dagan.
Go with the dragoon if you’ve not already finished (thread is getting old), of the 3 it’s drone load will make things go quicker as it’s a long string of missions that get old after a bit. That and Dagan neuts, or used to, and drones give you range options that lasers flat don’t. Takes little time to get basic warrior drone skill sufficient for the arc.
I have never done the arc with a dragoon but did very recently get trig rep for one of my new armarr alts in this one:
[Dragoon]
Small I-a Enduring Armor Repairer
Explosive Energized Membrane II
Multispectrum Energized Membrane II
AE-K Compact Drone Damage Amplifier
1MN Monopropellant Enduring Afterburner
Parallel Enduring Target Painter
Cap Recharger II
Dual Modal Light Laser I, Radio S
Dual Modal Light Laser I, Radio S
Dual Modal Light Laser I, Radio S
Small I-ax Enduring Remote Armor Repairer
Core Probe Launcher I, Core Scanner Probe I
Small Kinetic Armor Reinforcer I
Small Thermal Armor Reinforcer I
Small Semiconductor Memory Cell II
Acolyte I x5
Acolyte I x5
Acolyte I x5
Multifrequency S x3
Radio S x3
Standard S x3
Core Scanner Probe I x16
…and it did just fine, so I can’t imagine real issues with it against the low level npc mobs in the arc. The lasers are optional really, as the drones do all the work; they were mostly there to help draw some aggro off the acolytes. don’t think they did…
Just to add, there’s no need for the Core Probe Launcher for the SOE Epic Arc. There’s no scanning involved. Replacing it with a missile launcher would be a good idea for a bit more firepower, provided one has the skills for it. If not, removing it would give a bit more CPU and powergrid for you to fit better lasers.
That’s true, it was just a sample fit from another application, I thought that was clear, but maybe not. First time did SOE was in a maulus – I was brand new and didn’t know a better way for my wallet yet, I don’t recall it ever taking any damage which I don’t find surprising now as was orbiting mobs at nearly 80km at 2.5k m/s , would have been better with decent skills but was still a young toon. A cheaper way to do the arc ( sans Dagan) doesn’t come to mind. I think i had t2 drones during the later part of it – had to redo it out of memory, been enough module name-changes org would not have pasted in entirety if I still had it anyway.
