Ship info

What’s everyone’s opinion on the new ship info window? I believe that it “looks nicer” but the user friendliness is down a lot over the original basic one. I also feel less helpful information is provided over the original and they added in a bunch of stuff no one cares about. Time to train into doesn’t appear to be listed among the nightmare of a skill section it has now. Also the materials needed to manufacture it don’t appear to be visible either unless I’ve overlooked that.

Quite a few comments on it already in the Revenant feedback thread:

It’s basically par for the course for CCP’s UI revamp so far:

  • More bloat, less meaning
  • Shove extra graphics, bright colors, and highlights into the mix
  • Half the information in twice the space
  • Triple the size of some areas, but for some reason cut other areas down to a small space that you need to maximize then minimize (eg. Ship description)
  • More clicks, more scrolling, more mouse movement

Basically, CCP just continues to demonstrate that gameplay and design is much less important to them than trying to ape mobile game interfaces to appeal to a supposed audience who’ve been raised on mobile phone icons and Netflix.

Oh well, at some point the graphics bloat and UI proliferation will get to the point where you won’t mind the time dilation because you can’t see what’s actually happening in space anyway. Maybe that’s the real end goal.

You don’t have to and shouldn’t want to anyway as all CCP wants you to care about is SKINs and other NES offers and the NFTs they will introduce once they will no longer face enough backlash for it.

 :psyccp: :face_with_monocle:

I like the quotes. I like the “revised” quotes on Reddit even more!

It’s more that for the last decade this is all courses teach for ui. The employees hired off such education don’t understand how to make things fit their product or audience. They just do it how they were taught there is no interest or drive to do it in their own way

I use a lot of software. Maybe you do, too. What happens is that I get used to a particular interface, I get to know what’s where, the menus, drop-downs, etc, becoming second nature.

Also, after a while, my eyes take in the picture as a whole - an impression, so that any change, however slight, gets noticed, even though I may not be able to pinpoint straight away what exactly has changed.

For all the software I use, the first thing fully explained in the user guide (yes, I use those) is always the interface. It’s my gateway to the functions of the app, after all.

So, when I opened up the new Ship Info window for the first time, I was all over the place. It took me a bit of time to explore it all and to discover that something was missing. That info was replaced and, gradually, I’m getting used to the new look. I like it.

I must say I originally did not like it…but now that I’ve been using it a lot for several days I prefer it. Pretty much all the information you need for a ship is available in one place. Its just a case of getting used to the new menu.

The only thing I don’t like is that Paragon ship skins are listed in an entirely separate place, when they could just be listed in the regular ship skin list with ‘Paragon skin’ next to them and that then takes you to the Paragon list.

I like it.

Given the number of Twitch feeds I’ve watched where the person has some huge corp logo and a dancing anime figure and loads of other clutter I’m amazed anyone can see what’s happening in space anyway.

If you don’t undock, you don’t need to see whats in space !
