Shuttle Smart-bombing Is Anti-Gameplay, Not PvP

I think that’s unfair to LLMs, and it’s also unfair to me to make me defend LLMs.

Maybe he’s using a translator?

Instead of removing smartbombing, maybe remove the cargo hold of shuttles completely.

So their only purpose will only be to travel from A to B. Not to move blueprints or expensive small items free of risks.

You cannot have both worlds, instant warp and enough strong to resist smartbomb and a cargo hold to transport exepensive items or blueprints.

But how would that solve the issue?

If people wish to carry blueprints into smartbombs that’s on them. I don’t see how preventing people from carrying blueprints in shuttles makes the game more fun, it only means all shuttle kills are worthless instead of occasionally a hilarious multi-billion kill. We’d be left with expensive pod kills only.

I do not know how this helps anyone besides preventing people from making mistakes, and making mistakes is one of the best ways to have content in this game.

Thats neither the point nor the criticism of shuttle smartbombing. It’s in most cases not the loss of value, it’s the lost time when you are sent back to Jita with the click of a button just becuase you hadn’t prepared like thousand bookmarks in advance and doubled the number of warps to do by using a bounce spot everytime you are not alone in local.

I know my PoV is not shared by many, but I think the amount of frustration it adds to the game compared to the amount of skill/difficulty required to do it is in imbalance (especially compared to the amount of effort it takes to avoid being killed by it even if you know about the danger and are paying attention), so - in my personal book - in it’s current form it’s a net-loss for the game.

Gatecamps would be less punishing for new players if things where explained, with any kind of detail.

For example when one hovers over a lowsec status symbol there are details about the lack of CONCORD ship presence, and that turrets at gates and stations will still attack criminals.

There is no mention anywhere in game about gatecamps and the mechanics. Nothing to teach players about instalocks and smartbombs.

We are far enough in the games lifetime that it wouldn’t be a big difference to have in game symbols for gatecamps in empire space.

Veteran players use scout alts, or multibox, which is against the spirit of onboarding new players. “You wanna be safe, play with more than one character”.

There are already websites for gatecamp checks, but why break immersion with plethora of third-party tools when it can be first party info. Same as with ships destroyed in space overlay, there’d be some delay which would still catch some.

They could also make kind of trial challenges for the different ganking approaches in the game to make players understand the mechanics. A gank for a new player is a fish out of water experience.

“You’re entering lowsec/nullsec which is very dangerous”, ok, the game should first answer players question “dangerous how?”

As veteran player I rarely scout.

More often then not I just send my ship ahead, but make sure it’s an agile ship that can slip through most camps.

Do I ever get caught? Sure, sometimes I’m bad, took a lazy shortcut, warped straight to gate and lose a ship. That’s part of EVE too.

I think telling new players that the next system is ‘dangerous’ because it ‘is low sec space’ is enough to both warn players and give them a hint about the danger. It’s then up to them to decide what to do with it, ignore it, ask in Rookie Help chat, their corporation or friends what the dangers of low sec are, or find answers online.

I don’t think the game should turn a pop-up warning into a full tutorial.

There are indeed “threat indicators” on a Stargate before you jump trough, telling you how much violence has happend recently in the system behind. Not sure many newbros know about that…

Cool, I never noticed those small wingdings at the gate. It partially answers the question, but with websites you also get info at which gates the kill happened (based on zkillboard). So if gate X is safe you might risk knowingly the jump.

Personally would put that information on the tooltip for the gate in the overview. Would be nicer to access. I don’t know if the info on that page is up to date but no notification for lawlessness in the system. To work around surprises I always set destinations for triangle visibility.

I’m relaying what I’m seeing in this forum, reddit and sometimes the in-game help channel. Re-enforcement that individuals should use multiple character. (Hauling, trading, scouting, abyssals, faction warfare and standings = “who doesn’t use an alt??!??”)

That doesn’t mean all veterans use an alt apparently, you seem like one of the probably few that don’t.

I’ll have to disagree regarding if this should be in game. You’re thinking in terms of tutorials which are the most boring gameplay approach and something than 99% of players would skip if possible. A game designer worth it’s salt could make the teaching experience engaging.

The more information you can relay to the player, for them to be able to assess risk, the more likely they will be in taking said risk. Because what are people more afraid of than the unknown and looking like fools?

The problem of giving players ‘more information’ while warning them is that the bigger you make the hurdle of information you put in their face as they attempt to jump a gate, the bigger the chance they ignore it or miss crucial parts of that information as they skim or skip the thing that blocks them from doing what they want to do, and jump anyway.

Keep the warning brief and to the point:

this gate leads to dangerous low sec space. Enter at own risk.

It warns players and gives them enough information to ask and read further if they want to do that.

Historically, FC developed EVE to not hold hands with players.. I still believe even in this new age of instagrat brats, FC still shouldn’t hold hands, and let players figure things out like we did 10-20 yrs ago.

I agree to this and at the same time you have at hand all means to get yourself educated if you wanted to…

The thing about recommending an alt is that it’s both effective and the most idiot-proof recommendation you can make, and that’s helpful in this situation because the type of person who is struggling with this in the first place probably is not known for their critical thinking skills.

Let’s orbit at around 2km the potential of appealing to tradition

The current status quo is to share left and right eve university wiki links across the rookies help channel. Instead of pulling players out from any possible immersion into a third-party website in a web browser, the game could be the one educating.

The developers have shown disposition to change, and more hand holding if we can agree to see Exordium as such a gesture.

But instead, if the guiding design is meant to be “throw the baby in the lion’s cage” I can get that too, though I don’t think I’ve seen it stated as such. By them, the developers. And my feedback comes in terms of Exordium and similar efforts of onboarding new players.

My man, as a fellow ganker I can tell you that people using “smart” anything( phones, cars, bombers) are not very bright.

And I will tell you three things:

  1. Do not use your shuttle to carry billions in cargo.

  2. Do not use shuttle in null with expectation that you wont lose it.

  3. Actually- USE it to carry BJILLIONS in cargo value EVERY TIME i am ganking.

Tank you.

Also, if you are in shuttle that means you just need to be somewhere quick, with no problems if you die along the way.

That is why their name IS “shuttle”.

But GREED is strong.

And that is a good thing.

I do wish they would take that silly pointless unscannable cargo ‘bonus’ off blockade runners tho ngl…

I also don’t use scout when going into lowsec.

I either treat the gate as camped and go in only in cloaky ship or cheap replaceable ship like that shuttle with nothing inside.

Or I just risk it. Outside of Rancer, Tama and Ahbazon it is really rare to jump into gatecamp. And when you do, you still might have a chance as outside these systems the gatecamps are usually lacking the sub 2sec instalock or 30km abyssal scrams and webs or enough firepower to break your tank before you run back. And if they get me, well gf!

WHY?

CCP DO NOT DO THAT!

As a ganker myself, there is NOTHING better then open a cargo loot and find NOTHING inside for 9 times…and then that 10th time- 5bil in whatever it is in it…

Dont you get it? Blockade runners are like Kinder surprise- you do not know what will you get, sometimes nothing, sometimes it is good- and in rare occasions IT IS BAD ASS CHOO CHOO TRAIN!

You need to enjoy little things in your life.
