Skill Comparison Between Chars

I can’t be the only person to have several times had an issue like this…

One of my main chars has a Tengu. It displays 910 DPS in fittings. Most, though not all, requisite skills are level V.

This char ( Gloria ) skilled up for Tengu recently. Identical fitting. There really aren’t that many skills left to train, yet DPS is showing only 710 or so. I’m struggling to see what could make up that 200 DPS difference. It may be the remaining level V skills…or I may have completely missed something.

Just how useful would it be to have a ’ What skills does this char have for this ship that that other char doesn’t have ?’ function.

Are you not missing something like boosts or implants?

Or different ammo?

28% more damage is a whole lot of level 5s.

Or did you miss something big like the Caldari offensive subsystem skill?

It’s rare that I want to compare skills between two characters. I sometimes want to know the difference between my character and perfect skills, or more specifically see the impact of skills, but Pyfa does that well.

It doesn’t tell you anywhere what actual difference the different subsystems make. I know some skills can make a lot of difference…for example 25% extra DPS for each extra level of Amarr Cruiser.

It’s not implants, as none of my chars even have missile implants ( which means the 910 DPS could itself go higher ). Its the exact same ship, a copied fitting, with the exact same Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missiles.

You can see the per-level bonuses on the subsystems themselves, like here in Pyfa (but also ingame):

Your dps difference between level 0 and level 5 in this subsystem is a factor (1 + 0.25) / ( 1 - 0.375) = 2. In other words you can double your damage by training this subsystem to level 5.

So if your alt isn’t level 4 or 5 yet, go train this skill.

I found one of the missing skills…Warhead Upgrades. It’s sitting there very un-obviously at the bottom of the Missiles skills list.

How handy it would be to have some function that simply listed or extracted all the relevant skills for a ship in a trained char and allowed them to be added for an untrained one. In the same way that ship fittings themselves can be exported.

Obviously the more characters one has the more difference this makes.

I dont know if Tengu’s have drones, so forgive me if this isn’t applicable:
I forget drones 24/7. Fitting, launching, recalling etc. They’re simply too small. Sometimes they make up alot of DPS

Tengu’s do, and this was going to be my suggestion as well. When checking DPS make sure there’s a component from all weapon systems. That will indicate if you’ve forgotten to add ammo for something or to place drones/manage drones on the ship fit.

No…Tengus do not carry drones. They have zero drone bandwidth.

You keep saying you don’t need lectures on how EVE works… and you keep demonstrating that you do.

Try fitting an Offensive core to your Tengu.

Tengus rarely have drones.

Only the supportive offensive subsystem has bandwidth.

I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t. Only pointing out that if there’s an unaccounted-for difference in DPS, then drones are a potential source of difference.

For the record, I assumed it’s a skill difference as you suggested. But I’ve seen people puzzled by DPS differences before just because they forgot to drag and drop some drones onto their fit, and the lack isn’t very visible.

Quick Fix: Use Pyfa

Download Pyfa and load both characters (you can import from EVE SSO). Build the Tengu fit under each and Pyfa will show skill differences and their impact on DPS, including skills missing per character.

Actually I went by Google…whose ‘AI’ says

AI Overview

‘No, the Tengu, a Minmatar-faction cruiser, does not have any drone bays or drone bandwidth. It cannot carry or deploy drones. The Tengu’s main focus is on its weapon capabilities, targeting systems, and speed.’

Which I can now see is wrong…but I have to say its not obviously so, given that the ‘raw’ Tengu shows no drones and the number of Tengu permutations with drones is quite small. As I hate drones I was unlikely to ever find them. In fact I’m only too pleased to have a ship with zero drones and just extra missile DPS instead.

The last thing I’d do is rely on AI for ship stats.

Just open the game or EVE uni wiki?

Also none of the T3C hulls have drone stats, or weapon stats, so it wouldn’t show up on either of those places unless the AI knew to look in a database with subsystem stats.

It knows a lot, but you have to teach it more…

The step from Caldari Offensive Systems IV to V increases the DPS by 120 or so, which now brings all my chars to the same DPS.

Glad you found it!
