Some input on Abyssal t2 with Hecate and Confessor

Hi.

I need some input on this.

Me and a corp mate has been doing Abyssal T1s a few times.

Last night we agreed that T1s was way too easy, as we were looting all caches and with 5-10min to spare, more than often we did not even take armor damage.

So, we decided to try an electrical T2. I had read that the difficulty would be “substantially” higher.

Well, how much harder could that be? 30%? 50%!? Considering there are 4 more tears that should be doable with 2 T3Ds it can’t be too bad, right?

We went in, first pocket was about what I was expecting, a lot harder, but manageable.

Second pocket, as soon as the 3 ships got in range I dropped to hull, changed to “defensive” and used a Hard shell 2 booster. One enemy died after 20sec of assisting and 10 seconds later my mate screams “I’m dead!” and 30 seconds later I go down.

I had problems getting any real damage out with my puny blaster range, especially in defensive mode, but also in sharpshooter.

Should this be that hard, or are we doing something wrong?

Would 125mm rails be better for more effective damage application, despite the theoretical lower DPS?

We are feeling.. lets say.. a bit reluctant to try again without some major changes to fitting and/or tactics

Have you looked at the fits over on abysstracker.com? Compared what works with what you’ve got?

What ships did you use to do the T1 abyssals?

If you found the T1s too easy in T3 destroyers then it might be because those ships are so powerful, rather than because you had learned the right tactics to use.

It might help (and be some fun) to go back and do some more T1 abyssals in weaker ships. Once you find them easy in 2x T1 frigates or solo in a Navy frigate then you will probably have a good handle on the tactics you need to use against the different types of enemy, and be better prepared for T2 abyssals.

  1. Hecate isn’t really the best Abyssalrunner, especially with Blasters. You will encounter spawns that web you down or tracking disrupt you so hard, that you barely hit anything any more. Also there can be spawns that you simply cannot beat close range. You need to kite them and that is hardly possible with a Blaster Hecate. Build your Fit around Speed and Rails, a Retribution with Beam Lasers for example can easily fly T2 Electricals, with kiting at ~40km most of the stuff, then finishing the rest close up. That concept would you copy with a Railgun-Hecate.

  2. When going into the Abyss as Destroyer-Duo, you should either be double-kite (the slower one is the Anchor, the other one follows, both ships fire behind and kill anythign that tries to follow from a safe distance). Once the dangerous NPCs are killed, both of you can close in to finish off some remaining big battleship or so.

  3. You can try a Remote-Repair Setup for 2 Destroyers that “brawls” the site, in T2 that is possible with a good fit. However: The Confessor is vastly superior for this, I don’t think the combination with a Hecate will work well. You should definitely use 2 Confessors here. Or 2 Jackdaws if you want to go for shield tank.
