Some questions regarding settings

Hi folks,

I haven’t played since the photon opt-out was removed, apart from logging in a few times to extract skills. During this time I’ve been wondering how to make a few changes to these UI settings:

  1. How do I get rid of this ‘halo’ effect that follows the cursor on the chat window, at the borders of focused tab, on buttons, etc.

  2. Is there any way to get this vertical padding under control? I’ve checked compact mode in every place I can find it, but there are many windows (market and contracts in particular) that just don’t seem to cooperate.

  3. This grey on grey theme is giving me headaches, surely there is some permutation of the settings that can get a bit more contrast here, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I’ve tried all the different color themes, but they just seem to change the border/icon/button/etc colors… the grey on grey remains.

Any and all help would be appreciated, thank you!

  1. You cannot. Since CCP removed visible borders from almost anywhere, these halos especially in the chat window but also other window borders are the markers that show you where dragable borders are.
The halo background for individual messages is there to clearly show where a message begins and ends.
  2. Compact is your only choice and you are at the mercy of CCP to introduce it in other window and rework other windows to work with compact. But since CCP abandoned Photon already, I would not hold my breath.
  3. There is no way to introduce more colors. CCP thinks that dark-gray is the way to go to convey a gritty, sinister, dark feeling in EVE. The only colors in the UI are now the faint bars and some buttons. But be aware: Some color themes make the UI even harder to use because they obscure highlights, make readability harder and make the UI less clear and concise.

Was worth a try, and I thank you.
