SPACE IS WAAAY TOO BRIGHT!

It is common for Lea Ramiro and all her/his problems that she/he never actually gives any details about the hardware and/or software setup that leads to her/his problems.
So we will never figure it out for sure, but my wild guess is that either in the OS GPU driver settings or in the settings on the very display device upon which her/his eyes rest upon, a combination of contrast and brightness settings are at fault and it is not necessarily EVE which is causing the unpleasantries…

I just know bad cinema when I see it. Also I watched up to where he met the wookie, too much bulls–t to stand it.

Driver : ‘ All these new fangled LED car lights are too bright’

Vehicle Authority : ‘ Have you tried driving with sunglasses at night ?’

Well you picked a invalid example here. Blinding by LED car lights has been recognized by the authorities and the UNECE has passed regulation in 2021 to minimize it and is in the process of passing more regulation affecting construction of future LED lights directly because it was not sufficient.

They took their time. A bit like the too bright stuff in EVE.

This is what you all miss out on by being stubborn and not dropping the brightness.

I don’t disagree that the nebulae look stunning on low brightness. But low brightness also dims the actual stars (I can barely make them out!), and your ship and stations will appear as basically black blobs.

Yes, I certainly agree with that. I was outside the other night looking at the stars, and I think those in EvE should be probably 100% brighter, if not more. It’s a question of relative proportion, but ultimately the general darkness at low brightness feels right and the contrasts are more vivid.

yeah and the rest of the game looks like ■■■■ too when you do that.

I wouldn’t say so:

Those are taken at about 20% client brightness setting. This is a matter of personal preference, but I think space looks absolutely gorgeous.

You do know you don’t have to take the slider all the way down or up? You’re saying there’s not a single spot on that brightness scale where the space looks good to you? At some point there is a balance there where the outside isn’t too bright and the inside isn’t too dark.

System name is Zororzih

Zororzih IX asteroid belt 1

Here I found the perfect monitor settings for the game.

BEFORE

AFTER

Now if you want to reproduce these dazzling on screen effects, here is the simple adjustment tutorial. It only takes a little over 2 hours to make the adjustments. I take no risk or responsibility.

Summary

Unplug the Monitor: Disconnect the monitor from the power outlet. This is the most important step to prevent electric shock. Remove the power cable completely, when possible. Also this will give you a healthy snack, as I find chewing on power cables very tasty.
Discharge Capacitors: Monitors contain capacitors that can store a charge even after being unplugged. While not always necessary, it’s best to discharge them to avoid any potential shocks. This is usually done by shorting the capacitor leads with a resistor (around 1k ohm is suitable) using insulated pliers. If you are unsure how to do this, it is best to ask a family member or neighbor to poke around with their fingers.
Tools Required: A basic kitchen knife should be able to pry most of the part loose. If you hear a loud crack, it is okay, that is only the plastic case breaking. Nothing you can’t glue back together with cement.
Disassembly: 1. Remove the Base 2. Pry Open the Casing 3. Remove the Back Cover 4. Disconnect Cables 5. Remove the Metal Shielding Simple as 1, 2, 3!
You will see a large light panel, it will look like this;

Remove it and toss it out in the garbage, it is no good for any purpose. Replace it with this festive scented candle.

Reassembly might be a challenge.

Enjoy all your games with the new low powered monitor.

What region is that? That is not what turning brightness down in Gallente space looks like to me.

This is low-brightness Gallente:

Found it, Essence on low brightness:

Personally that 0% setting is too dark for my liking, I prefer it at 20-25%, but as you can see it looks nothing like the image you posted.

I went and found a system in Essence with an orange star to see if that’s what’s causing red-out, but I can’t reproduce such a distortion in hues even in an orange star system:

That nebulae is low-quality, however. CCP is using a low-res image there, and it’s been upscaled beyond its native proportions, which is causing it to look pixelated/fuzzy.

If you can tell me the system name, then I can go and check if it looks like that on my settings when brightness is turned to 0%. Currently I am unable to reproduce an ‘after’ image like you posted.

People think that graphics settings are easy, but actually they are not. Even changing something as innocent as hue has the potential to mess up graphics on a global scale. It might look beautiful on the program you’re using when you change the settings, but might look completely whack on something else. And if you go and change many different graphics settings at once without knowing what you’re doing – you can be sure you’re messing up your monitor in ways you didn’t think was possible.

Brilliance is a big deal.

I’ve just discovered one potential way of mitigation:

  • Set “Post Processing“ in “Display & Graphics“ to “Low“. It toned down overblown brightness and slightly improved contrast for me.

Low:

High:

If you want to discuss the brightness, please do so in its thread: SPACE IS WAAAY TOO BRIGHT!

I’ve created this thread for solutions and mitigation methods, so they are not lost in the linked thread.

I don’t know how you plan to keep all the jokers out, but anyone who needs to mess with settings and own Nvidia GPU, can use the Control Panel;

This is found in Manage 3D Settings → Program Settings tab.
This section controls the GPU setting each time a program or game is run and sets it to the custom graphics.

However, it is still my opinion, we should never have to resort to correcting or tweaking programs, mechanically or graphically. The best games work and look great without our having to do their job.

This is a naive view which fails to appreciate the complexity of computer systems. Instead of trying to remove all options for correction, a developer seeks to increase the number of available options, in order to accommodate more users.
