Ehhh… I think you missed the part where I talked about game balance.
You made a fundamental mistake in your comparison.
Mining barges are not cars or trucks, they’re heavy equipment. A dozer today does the exact same as a dozer from 30 years ago, at roughly the same pace. An excavator today is the same as an excavator from 30 years ago.
I got to drive a D7 a bit over 30 years ago, and a few months ago I got the opportunity to drive a brand new D7. The new one has more computers, but the controls and performance are identical.
You’ve had some new specialty equipment come out, but many of today’s real world mine workers are using equipment identical to equipment their grandfathers used.
There is no game balance when three to four destroyers can take a mining barge.
Based on the notion that you consent to PvP when you undock, all ships not capable of insta-warping, basically anything but a shuttle, shall be able to defend itself against one attacking destroyer and needs to be more than capable of defeating the destroyer, without assistance.
With Eve Online being a hostile environment, all the time, there should not be a single ship without the ability to destroy a single, attackig destroyer.
Four against one? And the four players win?
How is that unfair?
If the mining barge had a buddy, or multiple buddies in other barges they surely could win that fight. Add a mining support ship like a Porpoise or Orca with remote shield repairs and you could laugh at those four destroyers!
I’ve seen a barge successfully defend against multiple frigates or destroyers, because he was not fit for mining yield and expected combat.
A mining barge needs to be able to defend against at three frigates or two destroyers and have a good chance of winning the fight.
After all, if Eve Online is PvP based, then why are the mining barges built to satisfy the needs of the ganker instead of being built to defend against nature?
Use a brick-tanked Skiff. What you want already exists…
Dont you have anything better to do?
Nope, he’s been doing this exact same thing for as long as I can remember being on these forums.
Like I’ve already said and others, they CAN.
You’re talking to a brick wall. Actually, the brick wall is more receptive to the sounds, the little voids absorbing just that tiny bit of the vibration.
Dryson has stated before that he thinks barges should have the tank and DPS of a battleship and more yield than an anti-tanked Hulk.
I mean, he wants to be able to kill, not hold off, 4 destroyers all while still being able to mine at current efficiency. I state this knowing full well that he’d be the first in line demanding that any ship resulting from his idiotic suggestions then be able to take out 4 Tornadoes while outmining a boosted hulk.
So multiple players working together with ships built for their intended purpose should lose to one guy in a ship that’s not planning on a fight?
Pretty much. Why shouldnt a mining barge not expect to be ganked when Eve Online is primarily PvP and everyone consents to being attacked when undocking?
Mining barges need to be more combat orientated to make gankers work for their meal instead of barges being meals-on-wheels.
No, Dryson. You cannot have a mining ship with the tank and dps of a battleship. We’ve been telling you no to this same idea for over 10 years.
I will ask several questions and I want honest answers, from Eve Online players only. Not the content trolls who have nothing better to do in life than worry about this game because you think Eve Online should be…forbidden knowledge maybe?
- Is Eve Online a PvP based environment_______?
My answer: Yes. - Do Capsuleers consent to combat, of any type, including ganking_____? My answer: Yes
- Should mining barges of the Procurer and higher tiered mining barges would be redesigned to be more combat efficient while maintaining mining abilities that are 10% below that of the Procurer and higher tiered mining barges. Yes.
- Yes
- Yes
- No because they already are capable
No.
No.
Yes (a little bit more offence or defence will always be welcome).
I haven’t bought one yet but I was rather hoping that we could use the new ships for mining but it appears looking at them that the large hold won’t be able to store ore, is that right?
The trick is to fit for combat instead of max yield if you wish your ship to be more combat capable than the max yield option.
They are more geared for moving PI.
The large infrastructure hold isn’t for ore.
These Upwell ships can hold all sorts of materials related to Upwell structures (structures themselves, cores, fuel blocks), deployables, planetary products, ice products and moon products.
Here’s a list:
