Upwell mining and scavenging hulls (with missile bonuses) would be cool. I’d love a combat-orientated Noctis.
Tell me how that’s combat oriented hauler is doing for you, cause the only feedback I see is from Dryson complaining that they can’t solo Titans.
Mine are doing just fine. I haven’t had a chance to fire the missiles, though (even in anger).
I always figured if my haulers ended up in combat, then I failed in my job as a hauler.
Sometimes it can’t be avoided. I’ve had a lot of Tornados take pot shots at me just because…
And which mining barge has bonuses for combat?
Do I really have to spell it out? I would have guessed that my hint
… would have been clear enough. But apparently I need to spell it out?
Hopefully this picture has informed you enough, Dryson, otherwise feel free to ask for more clarification about which barge has combat bonuses!
Those bonuses apply to fighting NPC’s in an asteroid belt and not player ships. A Navy Catalyst can orbit a Procurer at 20 km while keeping the barge scrambled while taking out the barge’s drones and then move in for the kill.
Hahahaha
Haha
Hahahahaa
Are you serious?
FYI: those shield bonuses and drone bonuses apply in fights against player ships too.
That’s why you recall your drones, lock the catalyst, then deploy and shoot the catalyst with drones 1 or 2 times, recall them to break the catalyst’s lock and repeat. There are ways to use drones in PvP, you just have to put in more effort than with NPC fights.
All industrials need a balance pass, but back to the Op’s suggestion - armed miners (other than drones) seems like a no-brainer. I mean, mining is fairly low on the income scale already - so the prospects of an escort fleet are almost non-existent.
Because you have to be a no brain player to still be on grid when the fight starts as a miner?
So why are you sticking around when player combat ships show up in the belt or anom that you know don’t belong there?
Why aren’t you using the absurdly plentiful risk mitigation tactics you can find reading this and the similar threads?
If you’re not making money, why are you wanting to put your income source at risk?
Armed barges will not save you from gankers, because they simply adapt like they always do. The only difference is your lack of PvP skills will make them tricking you into being the agressor all the more likely, thus making their job easier. I can think of a few ways to do that myself, and I wasn’t a ganker for long.
TheNavy Catalyst is fit with a Repair bonus. Ancillary Repairer with Nanite Paste, 200 mm T2 armor plate, DCU II, AB II, Cap Charger II, Long-Range, 24km scramble, 4 railguns + two small energy neutralizes II. Rigs would be rigs for increasing PowerGrid or CPU, T1 damage rig and possibly a T1 Nano Pump. Not to mention implants and boosters.
Navy Cat orbits at 23km, takes out each drone until the barge has zero drones. Navy Cat then switches to medium and then close-range ammo when the Navy Cat gets into neut range.
Mining barge doesn’t stand a chance.
But, with the ability for the barge to mount at least three weapon types, rails/blasters, missiles/rockets or lasers and buff to shields, armor or hull and bonuses to drone damage and velocity, the Navy Cat wouldn’t stand a chance.
The blaster variant of the Navy Cat would see the destroyer mount less armor while keeping the repper with the rest of the slots filled around high tracking speeds and accuracy for taking on drones close up.
Tell me, why very welll specialiced ships need to be strong in a 2nd or 3rd way ? Why do you want a barge that could fight like a marauder on steroids ?
I normaly hate RL compares but …
Why should an excavator which works in our mines can defend theirself against a tank ? Doesnt make sense !
But what if a miner is attacked by another combat-specialised barge that has ‘three weapon types and buffs to shields, armor or hulls and bonuses to drone damage and velocity’.
The miner in the regular barge with regular mining equipment fit in their high and low slots wouldn’t stand a chance!
Your suggestion would not only be bad for miner versus the rest of the ships balance, but also be terrible for miner versus miner combat balance.
All the valuable asteroid belts would be dominated by ‘pretend-miners’ in overpowered mining ships that they use for combat instead, who kill anyone who touches the rocks.
How would a miner still be able to mine in such a hostile environment?
Have you ever left the station?

Bro, Eve Online is all fantasy or pretend as you call it. Its a social interactive platform.
Im certain that you wont see combat mining barges attacking cruisers and higher level ships. The new mining barge would be built around defensive combat mining and would provide very little in the way of being a full fledged combat ship.
If built correctly the combat mining barge would be slightly more powerful than a T2 destroyer.
Just stop.
There are barges with combat bonuses which you can use if you wish to have better combat skills while mining. Fly a Procurer.
Can this thread now be closed?
Why are you asking for the thread to be closed?
Scared that miners might like the idea of a TIII mining barge that has two modes, combat and mining?
When in combat mode, mining lasers mine about the same as a Venture, but would have a 10% bonus to shield, armor or hull resists which would be based on the race the player is playing as. There would also be a bonus to reppers and shield booster of 5%. Weapon bonuses would be 5% damage per level of the small weapon type fitted, 3 weapon slots that can also be fitted with mining lasers if weapons are not used and 5% to optimal range. Drones would get a 25% damage bonus plus 10% velocity bonus for medium drones. The Squall could carry up to five medium drones but could only deploy two. Slots would be similar to the Procurer.
The mining bonuses while in mining mode should be designed by miners.
English is a good island to take a vacation on.
I have replied to many points.
The only points you want spoken about are the points that do not involve developing a combat mining barge because a combat mining barge would make your life and game play that much more difficult.
By the way, Voodo is not spelled Vuhdo.
