Struggling Nightmare Level 4

Hi I ve got around 56 millions skill point, at the moment I am using a Nightmare to run missions, the dps is very high around 1.2 K but the tank is terrible, I have to warp out a few times, any suggestions to improve this. Any fit ideas, I can not fly Marauders, and for the moment I don’t have skills to use Cruise Missille Tech II or Torpedos Tech 2

I’ve never had any tank problems. Make use of the AB and position yourself correctly out of NPC DPS range when the damage is too much. You can even speed tank the NPC battleships. Range is not a problem for you as you control that with your crystals, so use this and the AB bonus to your advantage.
If you really want to, you can improve the t2 booster with an abyssal one that would consume less cap and boost more. Buy 10 gravid x-large SB mutaplasmids and 10 t2 shield boosters to roll them . You are guaranteed to get a good one from 10 rolls.
When no need for omni tanking, drop the SBA and use 3 specific mission hardeners, pulse booster when shield drops to about 25-30% .
Nightmare is a beast , only thing that I don’t like is EM/Thermal damage lock.

I’ve used a Nightmare for missions: A Tachyon Beam fit - works quite nicely, but I agree you have to watch the tank.

Firstly, I’ll assume that as a mission fit you are using an active tank - a shield booster - put a Boost Amplifier on as well. Lets give it more of a chance. Also, fit a Large Micro Jump Drive - give yourself the option of jumping 100km away to allow for a recharge of the shield and capacitor.
This is where a Tachyon fit really works - I can melt most things at that kind of distance so can plink away as things recharge. Given your DPS I suspect you may be Pulse fitted. Nothing wrong with that, but you are going to be closer in and will need to soak up some damage.

Also, with that kind of DPS I suspect that you’ve put a lot more into damage than tank - that’s one decision. If you are able to balance the ship better between the usual points of Firepower/Defence/Manouver then it’s a better ship. I suspect you are all firepower. f you are able to fit X-large boosters then life is a little better, and capacitor or shield rigging will help in place of energy weapon rigs.

The real surprise I had with the Nightmare is that it speed tanks really quite well. Train Caldari Battleship up to level IV at least, fit a 100MN Afterburner and train up the relevant navigation skills (again to at least Level IV) and orbit the targets. Keep your traversal to them up and you’ll find the battleships you face will have hard work applying damage to you.

This gives me about 850 DPS at 40km, 550 DPS at 80km. Importantly, I can boost the shields at 800 EPH/sec when I need to. I can move at over 700m/s - that’s Cruiser performance in a Battleship.

I’m cap stable with Standard loaded and the Afterburner running. I filled the EM hole as I operate where the mission rats tend to be Blood Raiders.

…and @Oriki_Ahvilen pushed reply while I was writing this. SNAP! Another Tachyon Nightmare!

It works , but it will obviously be a downgrade . If efficiency is your goal, I would not recommend it. If you want to fly it just to enjoy the hull you can go ahead, any t1 / faction / pirate battleship can do the job, HACs / T3Cs also.
In the end I think Paladin is what you want.

Again, as Oriki says, it works but it is a more methodical ship in its approach - very Amarrian.
One big advantage is that it’s half the price. It’s also a nice step-up from the Apocalypse if you are using that for mission running as it is very similar, benefits from the same skills and is flown the same way.
It’s a nice upgrade from a Apocalypse if you’ve flown one. Based on your SP total you’ve probably got good armour skills - so a NApoc is a sensible ship.

Building a 1000 Battleship - where the sum of the DPS and EHP/s is 1000, normally something like 650 DPS, 350 EHP, is quite straight forwards. The use of an armour repairer for an active tank compared to a shield booster is good for missions: the capacitor demand is less, although the rep applies at the end of a cycle not at the start.

A beam fitted NApoc is normally the way to go - that and the Large Micro Jump Drive enable you to keep range and manage damage. Nice hull, handles Level IV missions easily. Prettier than a Nightmare. Good stepping stone to a Paladin.

One difference between a Mega Beam fitted NApoc and a Tachyon Nightmare is the cycle times on the weapons: the Megas cycle more quickly so you clear the small stuff - the one or two shot kills - more rapidly in the NApoc. But it’s a moot point realy.

The Paladin (Mega Pulse fitted) with Bastion is normally the end-point for Amarrian Level 4 mission running ships - you’ll be single shotting Cruisers and dual shotting Battlecruisers as fast as you can lock the targets up.

Seeing that you have already accrued 56m skill points, you have been playing the game already for some time. It would only be natural that you have also acquired some ISK/net worth during this time.
My advice would be, treat yourself on something nice and buy yourself into a Marauder. They are huge fun to fly and pay themselves back with divident.

Oh my stars and garters!..dearie me! You kids and your fancy microjumpdrives! Back in my day you had to just hope you could warp out in time to the station or celestial you’d been aligned to! (*uphill snow bothways mutter mutter).

Nightmare is a good ship.
Tachyon beam fit snipe frigs-cruisers at distance with Aurora / radio / microwave, then close distance keeping transversal up, orbit the battleships and pound them into red glowing dust with gleam / multifrequency.
Or pulse brawler fit orbit at long distance and kill off the web/scram frigs with scorch, then use microjumpdrive to go into the bigger ships (one simply must yell WAAAGH! IN AMONGST YE! when doing this), kill cruisers with Scorch then switch to Conflagration for that satisfying green purge feeling.

Nightmare gets such a good bonus to afterburner one simply must have one on theirs. A battleship going 7-750 m/s with just a T2 100mn afterburner and without the signature bloom of a MWD is juicy.

10k dps wouldn’t matter if you couldn’t apply it (including living long enough to apply it of course), eh? Sacrifice a bit of your dps for other functions.

Anyway, you’ll work out what works for you I’m sure.
