You know, people say video games are just “a waste of time.”
Those people have clearly never tried running logistics in a 300-man fleet while also explaining to their cat why they can’t pause an MMO.
EVE Online has been the guiding star of my adult life. While others found purpose in careers, religion, or cross-stitching questionable memes — I found it in the vast, cold, betrayal-rich void of New Eden. For 22 years, CCP has delivered the wildest sandbox in gaming, and somehow it’s still standing—like a drunken Amarrian battleship refusing to die.
This game has:
Taught me more about economics than a degree ever did.
Given me stories with more twists than a Gallente soap opera.
Brought meaning to the lives of unicorns and bunnies worldwide who now roam the stars in peace and glitter.
Every wormhole dive? A leap of faith.
Every mining op? A meditation on patience and caffeine.
Every fleet op? The one time I’ve ever set an alarm at 3 am and felt good about it.
And I say this with complete sincerity: I fully intend to play EVE until the day I die.
Provided the ICU has decent Wi-Fi and the nurse lets me plug in a mouse, I’ll be in there running missions and talking smack in local.
Also—and I say this lovingly—if the United States ever annexes Iceland, I propose we immediately recognize CCP Games as a National Historic Landmark and get Reykjavík its first Waffle House.
So thank you, CCP. For 22 years of glorious space drama, strategic misfires, and unforgettable player-made history.
Here’s to 22 more years of pixelated perfection, blaster brawls, and saying “hold on, I’m in fleet” to confused family members.

Look, I get it — you came here for the PvP, not PvE. You want raw, chaotic, unpredictable human interaction, not some perfectly parsed, grammatically flawless ChatGPT raid boss monologue.
But let’s be honest… sometimes you just need a reliable tank that doesn’t rage quit mid-thread or argue with the healer over loot priority.
ChatGPT is like PvE — structured, informative, maybe a little too smooth. But humans? Humans are PvP — messy, emotional, and half the time they forget to press their abilities. There’s room for both in this dungeon we call a forum.
Gerard, I understand your concern about AI-generated content. However, the post in question reflects genuine experiences and sentiments from a long-time EVE player. While it may exhibit polished language, the emotions and memories shared are authentic.
EVE Online thrives on its diverse community, encompassing various playstyles and perspectives. Dismissing a heartfelt reflection as “spam” overlooks the value it brings to our shared narrative. Let’s appreciate the different ways players express their connection to the game, enriching our collective experience.
Sounds to me like Swing Vote drank the Kool-Aid about 22 years ago. Odd it takes such a long period of time to take effect… or is that affect? I get those 2 confused in such matters. CCP must have some special ingredient in that Kool-Aid. I have always suspected a mild hallucinogenic from what they show in the commercials.
Since I play for free and haven’t bought so much as a single Plex here, you can discount my opinion completely. What a nice philosophy. What if, Gerard there buys more than you, does his opinion matter more? I tend to think opinions are like Clint Eastwood, everybody has one and they all stink.
Hey, I never said anyone’s opinion should be dismissed based on how much they spend — just that if someone’s going to measure value strictly in financial terms, they should be consistent about it.
Personally, I think good ideas stand on their own, whether they come from a free player, a whale, or someone who just likes Clint Eastwood quotes.
Have fun out there — space is big enough for all our stinky opinions.
That means a lot—thank you. If I managed to put into words even a fraction of what this insane, glorious game has done to all of us over the years, then it was worth it. Here’s to 22 more years of beautiful addiction. o7
