The developer should work on a specific class of ship that works with controllers. Frigate class technically but with simpler modules and simple controls for cockpit play. It would be really cool to add that to the game. I know this has probably been suggested before but is there not a market for this? I bet there is a million and one reasons why not to do this and so CCP just focuses on two different games, the simple one and the hard one, but i just can’t get past that we are missing out on something. I am sure this has been looked into but i am interested to hear what people say on this.
It’s been done. See: EVE Valkyrie. The market didn’t respond well (though, one could argue a big part of that was the initial VR-only release).
EVE isn’t a flight simulator…
EVE is not that type of a game. Yes, it has been suggested before, that’s why we got first person camera, but rarely anyone uses it. Technically speaking, you could already make it work with key binds and playing around with controller mapping. However, the most common way of playing EVE is zoomed out with a tactical overlay, because the gameplay is all about strategic positioning, not dogfighting.
Its called EVE Echoes
But its for phones not consoles, you can still use a controller
I did spend an entire day once, literal years ago, to make it work, just like you described. I even got to a point where I managed to do semi-reliable combat maneuvers in a frigate. It was pretty cool.
However, to call this clunky is an understatement. And I have no idea how CCP can fix that. Instead, I made a thread in their player idea subsection, where I proposed relatively easy to implement changes to the UI, like extending the lines to assist your orientation.
Even that was ignored.
So, under current management, anything that approaches the collossal complexity of rewriting the entire control code will never ever see the light of day. Sorry…

If that’s the experience you’re looking for, just play Elite, X4, or Scam Citizen.
I made a lot of crypto in Star Citizen.
Could you imagine the update nightmare that would ensue.
And any other attempt to deliver a playable platform could potentially change Eve Online to feel as it’s being played on rails.
With Cutscenes being at every stargate jump filled with b now advertising from the NES store.
Pls don’t consider this as a possible idea.![]()
9 out of 10 suggestions on this forum are either trying to turn EVE into something it isn’t or into another game that already exists….
Don’t forget all the “my income stream needs a buff, because new players” and “that play style needs a nerf, because it impacts my income stream” sugggestions
Ganking is griefing.
