I’m a big proponent of FC reworking sig tanking. I’m wondering if any CSM have similar thoughts?
Right now a small fast ship can hit outside of it’s weight class because the bigger ship cannot track little ships without completely designing their ship for small ship engagements. And even with completely designing their ship to engage small ships, they’re still limited on their damage application and become completely unable to engage ships of similar class. Smaller ships should be fast and hard to hit. But they shouldn’t be impervious to damage. Basically right now that frigate or destroyer has a 100% tank against BC and above ships. No other ship has that short of tank in the game.
They should realign sig tanking to be a reduction in the number of hits but not complete 0% tracking. I understand a reduction in damage as well as the ship is moving and it might be hard for the damage to fully apply, but when we’re talking a frigate/destroyer especially the Kiki being able to kill a BC or cruiser based entirely on being able to tackle and orbit at range and the BC having 0 counter play for that, is a bit insane to me.
you have drones… neuts.. but im also opposed to this idea in general as it would turn eve into basically big ship wins all fights which simply isnt true, in current militaries drones are starting to be used more and more; and they sig tank basically. Sure an MBT often has or should have some defences against this but they are not superfluous.
Guy is trying to make it sound like more of a general complaint but the hilarious thing he is really complaining about is an arty tornado being unable to track a kiki.
Thats simply not true. Unless you use a very specialized fit, BCs and BS’ make short work of normal combat frigates or destroyers. And if you use very specialzed fit, well, then any BC or BS with a very specialized anti-smallstuff fit would still make short work of you.
It wouldn’t though. Small ships would still have a ton of roles to play. It would however solve the issue of small frigate/destroyers being OP against bigger ships. There needs to be some balance. I’m not saying nerf it all to the ground, but doing some adjustments so it’s not so over powered.
Nah that one I wasn’t even made at. I was just bored at the end of a roam and wasn’t paying attention and warped right into his bubble. But the Kiki is one that is extremely OP against bigger ships. Way to much DPS and speed.
I’ve been a big proponent of balancing small ships for a long time. And since FC seems open to listening to ideas more and more I’m trying to bring it up as often as I can.
Most kitey ships can outrun drones. Neuts only work at a short range and Tackle ships can just use a disruptor instead of a scram so they can orbit outside your neut distance.
a tiger isn’t likely to swat down say a humming bird, but the hummingbird will be able to poke the living ■■■■ out of the tiger..
thats why smaller ships are harder to hit when you’re in a larger ship.. but if you have weapons designed to hit smaller ships, then they go away pretty quickly..
It seems your idea of ‘balance’ is that you want big ships to be able to punch down at small ships.
That bigger is better.
That if you take this balancing design along, small ships become irrelevant in fights and immediately killed instead of an annoying nuisance.
I prefer the large range of viable ships in combat, that a large null sec or low sec fight can have ships ranging from Frigates to Titans, mainline big ships and smaller support fleets, newbies to veterans and that everyone has a role and place.
If big ships could simply hit the small ships, this balance would be gone.
Being unable to easily track smaller ships unless you specialize in it is a large factor in making EVE’s fights fun and varied in size.
I think you’re misreading my statement. I clearly stated I wanted to balance sig tanking with the rest of the mechanics. Right now it’s one of the best armors you can have. I want it to be brought into line with everything else.
How is asking for balance a bad thing?
Bringing in sig tanking a bit won’t kill small ships but will allow players to feel powerful in larger ships. The idea that a small ship has nearly perfect tank vs larger ships is absurd.
You seriously think that small ships should be able to tackle, orbit with MWD on, with no counter play? Then you and I disagree.
MWD blooms sig as much as it speeds you up and is rarely used for sig tanking, except in a couple of ships like interceptors that have bonuses for MWD sig size reduction.
Sig tanking only seems perfect if you have no way to deal with it.
Webbing, paining, grappling, using small drones or rapid launchers all allow you to hit smaller fast ships, as does transversal matching, scramming in case of a MWD…
Sig tank may be powerful but it can also easily be shut off or ignored by the right setup. And in the end it’s just a small ship, it cannot hurt you that much either so you have time to get backup.
