Surgical Strike Update Follow-up

OK, now you’ve answered the question and may see that until now you really hadn’t. Not that I was asking for a long explanation, but nothing wrong with providing one for clarity either.

@SCORPIO_SICARIO Hear hear! That’s what I’m praying for too.

Overlords of CCP please rid us of these incompetents AMEN!

@Faylee_Freir I completely agree that EVE is relatively easy now because almost everything is figured out.

The solution to that, for any game developer worth their money, is not to nerf the “items” in the game so that it becomes harder or it requires more players to run that content. The solution is to simply DEVELOP new content, hence them being called DEVELOPERS.

All these changes in this update are simply retarded. Within the last 10 years in EVE Online we’ve only had so few ships added to the game and so little new content added to the game.

It’s time CCP got off their asses and instead of taking the nerf-hammer to everything, they developed new content that would encourage people to change their playstyles.

Make a new CLASS of CAPITAL SHIPS for example. Something that can wipe the field with titans and supers.

Make a new type of PvE missions or encounters with rewards that are good enough to encourage people to band together to get them done since you’ve already made it so that there’s no other way to go through them.

Make new classes of sub-capital ships that can more easily tie down capitals and so lead to big groups using their capital and super-capital fleets more in order to save and/or destroy stuff.

Change the SOV mechanics to something that actually makes some God damned sense, instead of the cancer they currently are now.

That’s what a GAME DEVELOPER does to fix issues. They DEVELOP stuff.

CCP has not developed anything in so long that I even doubt they still have staff capable of doing that. Along the years, all the people that actually tried and came with new ideas have left CCP. Now we’re left with CCP Down (Syndrome), CCP Rattatouile and CCP I have spittle coming out the corner of my mouth because my IQ is on par with a teaspoon’s.

LE: I mean, every single time I watch the “NEW” EVE Pulse and I see those guys there… I’m sorry but they do not inspire any kind of trust or anything. They can’t even speak like normal intelligent human beings for Christ’s sake. And since we’re on this subject, CCP, if you’re going to do “showcase” videos like this Pulse garbage, please do it better than that. I can probably teach my 4 year old daughter to do the same thing you do at home…

Yeah it will make it easier, so what? They made it MUCH harder last year after the 3 min bump change, why shouldnt freighter ganking get a buff in return?

It’s not negligible, but its not a lot. Turning the need for 20 T2 Cats to kill a freighter into 17 being needed isnt exactly some giant change.

You literally have no idea what we’re “willing” to gank, nor how the freighter traffic is. You can sit hours and hours in Uedama before you see a freighter above even 3 bil now. A little extra damage isnt going to change the logistics and all the setup required to even start ganking them.

Said based on what? It’s just baseless speculation, you literally know nothing. Ganking freighters is one of the most niche activities in the game. 15% extra damage won’t make anyone who wouldn’t already be ganking freighters gank them

Exactly and if ganking freighters isnt fun for 99% of people, not changing the mechanics and simply buffing void isnt going to make people start thinking its fun

After this Graph from CCP about new player retention, CCP nerf referal program abuse.
Buying PLEX through a referral system was more profitable than a direct purchase. Therefore, there were slightly incorrect figures for registering new accounts.

To my mind, the only “Undesirable Behaviour” in Eve is that which gets you banned by CCP. Everything else is legitimate, and therefore neither “desirable” or “undesirable” but simply “behaviour”.

Isn’t that obvious? - I am in SEADC - a corp for newbies. During the weekends we have 300+ players on Corp chat. We help them fit new venture, explain how to use D scan and guide them through all aspects of the game including PvP. It means we face their question and challenges on daily basis. I have very good overview what motivates them and what make them leave the game.

It is related to customer/user journey which goes this way:
Awareness → Interest → Consideration → Intent.
Marketing builds Awareness (inform that such game exist) and then people decide if they like it or not. If so, transition Awareness → Interest is accomplished. If they do not like it - it is totally OK → it is not your audience. Once they try, they consider if they want to play and the players who leave after 1 - 2 days just though it is something different. It is totally normal too.

Problem is when someone plays a few weeks and then face something what breaks their experience and they decide to quit instead of buying subscription - this is when you lose a valuable user, who enjoyed content, was potential paying customer, but quits. And these people I am talking about and these people I meet in my Corp.

What content? Highsec mining?

I am thinking that at some point Pearl Abyss steps in and says to CCP, look at what we have done with Black Desert. Yes there is PVP in BD, but it doesn’t effectively start until level 45 at which point your well established in the game. They give a player time to be hooked, Eve can destroy your interest in very quick order.

From the perspective of camping in one location waiting for targets coming to you, then I agree with you 100% - little will change. But if gankers are actively hunting and relaying intel used to intercept a freighter en route, then the dynamics change, as would the willingness to hunt itself. And then, of course, there is no harm done in actually increasing freighter HP by a mild amount to ensure this does not become a thing if it isn’t already one already (which you insist it is not). The status quo is being maintains in terms of rate at which the freighter is dying.

I should also point out that HS suicide ganking is not the only reason why this change would be implemented. On occasion they will be attacked without CONCORD intervention, and the status quo need not change where all of a sudden freighters being escorted have to die faster when convoys are attacked. That’s why CCP said they’re looking into it rather than having made a firm commitment.

You are making yourself look dumb, Archer. You don’t know what you are talking about.

Camping in a known camp location which most freighter pilots avoid if at all feasible is low effort gameplay on the target score. It’s a pipe, sure. It’s a good spot in a fairly busy pipe, but it’s a widely known camp point. Expecting content to fall from the new, careless or rushed on the regular that meets x as a profitability expectation with everyone paying even casual attention knowing there is a trap there is mildly hilarious.

It is irrelevant what they do as long as it brings them joy to continue it for a few weeks.

I was asking a question. Does highsec mining bring them joy?

Go easy on him. He’s upset that we’re discussing negating low-effort gameplay from becoming even lower by introducing HP buff to counter +15% damage increase. I’d be butthurt too if all I did was gate camp all day.

Can’t even get the ship spin counter. Disgraceful.

I’d be 100% in support of it if they were actively scouting and so on.

  1. There is. It raises the bar on freighter ganking. I think it was you above who said 10 ships would be undesirable… well we are talking 20 in a 0.5 system here for freighter ganking. Freighters did get a slight go buff with hull getting base resists. Im going to laugh at suggestions the 3 min bump timer was a nerf to ganking given the claims it’s a long weight for a high value freighter now (oh look, you hunted your prey out).
  2. It also creates a blind spot where it actually matters. Namely t1 barges and industrials. The difference here can be as much as 50% in number of ships needed. Because the number of ships is less to start with, so one less ship needed is huge in cases where that is true.

Gate campers are not true gankers

Are you really calling highsec freighter ganking low-effort?

Since DCs are not affected by the nerf, an increase in base HP to scale proportionally to all most (not even all) enemies using +15% ammo (which is not an unreasonable assumption when it comes to ganking freighters) would maintain the status quo, or make it slightly easier to gank than before, but not as easy as if there was no HP buff.

Per several previous posts, I am in strong favor of buffing barges and industrials in light of this patch.
