Switching Characters - Feature

Also, there is a section of the forums for “features” not GD.

This is rather funny because back in the day before the damn launcher got shoved down our throats you could do that exact thing.

Yeah, I’ve often wished for the same thing, too - it’s so “last millennium” to not be able to log out but remain in the client to re-log or log in as another character… Other online titles I’ve played have/had this feature.

Maybe I’m too old but the option to log off to character selection screen existed,they actually put the so called ‘work’ into removing it around the same time they removed the option to start the game from the exe instead of launcher.

No, there never was an option to return to character select. You always went back to the enter user name screen.

The explanation has always been that the client is code in such a manner that character assumptions are made and locked. It is easier to restart the client than to clear this cached character data. Hence despite this being a good idea, it has never been implemented.

And if you want to talk about legacy code, this is probably some of the oldest code.

Right up until you make a fool of yourself. Session related reasons are why you need to close the entire client and restart it to log into another character. The best you’ll get is a “log off and restart” option.
